Memorable moments in otherwise forgettable games

You must be mis-remembering because, all it’s faults aside, The Suffering was political as heck

Excitebike 64 had an infinitely vast procedurally generated desert that you could drive through forever, but it also had bonfires that allowed you to save where you were and come back to the exact same spot. It very much spurred my imagination at the time.

The rest of the game is fine.

Also wasn’t Excite Trucks just the best fucking game? This is totally not the thread for that but I loved that game and nobody ever talks about it.

I know the naked sequence in Kane & Lynch is this for many people.

Really? I really need to replay that. Just looked at the release date, and I can’t believe it’s been that long.

Excitebike 64 also had that soccer mode which stands out to me.

Also yes excitetruck is one of the best wii games and is awesome

the part where aeris dies

Teach me how to enjoy playing Excite Truck. I could not figure this out on my own.

Custom soundtrack on an SD card is in the options.

Seriously, it’s a lot of fun to turbo boost through absurd jumps bridged by huge powerslides. It’s an arcade racer with a trick system/air rings, and it happens to be a way better 3D Sonic game than the other Wii Sonic games. It’s definitely the only time I ever felt at home using tilt motion controls to steer a vehicle in a game. There’s a looseness to it, but you never feel like you’re losing control because the track design is smart.

This most certainly was not my experience.

I don’t remember this at all. Videos make it seem like it’s a race from campfire to campfire?

Otherwise I remember a lot about thie game! Particularly the uphill and downhill and football modes, which are all great.

Maybe you’re right! I remember it saving where you were but it’s been yeaaaars.

Suikoden Tactics has the game’s big tragic death being the main character’s father being turned into a giant fish
Suikoden 5’s is about a character trapped in a super deadly bubble (?)

Radiata Stories is a very light hearted Tri Ace game that makes you choose about 70% through (?) between Kill All Humans (including friends) and Kill All Non Humans (including friends) it is ridiculously grim in a game tailor made for a standard happy ending

is excitebike 64 the … dark souls of bicycle games…?

Multiplayer mode that’s like normal deathmatch except there is also a Death dude running about who kills you instantly if he touches you, and shrinks when you hit him until he’s destroyed

There is this old FPS that used the Marathon engine called Damage Inc. It was actually pretty memorable to me for several reasons, but what stood out to me the most was the end. After defeating the leader of a terrorist group, the game plays a recording he made where he laments America not caring if a black gangster dies, but do if a white person does, etc. Your contact dismisses his rant, which may be a political message regarding the US military and that kind of thing.

Also the first terrorist group you face off against is very obviously based on the KKK.

Interestingly, it was written/designed by the same guy who was behind The Suffering.

And then he did Homeland, which looked pretty iffy (but maybe that’s just initial impressions). Weird.

Do you mean Homefront? He was only in the special thanks

My mistake, thanks. Wikipedia made it sound like he was The lead on it.

When I read Sykel’s post I was like, ‘I bet that guy worked on Blacksite: Area 51’ and yeeeeep. Of course he worked on a bad game where the bad guys are the Department of Veterans Affairs.
