Throw them in the trash.

I’ve never enjoyed playing them very much. I like their intros though, and that artwork at the end is real cool.

a) Oh my gosh they look so good.

  1. Man, Iori’s really going through it.

I always forget Mai is in a proper ninja clan because every character you see from her clan is a weirdo

coolest thing here is having a take on her original fatal fury 2 stage. that game still has some of the best ever stages.

Good colors in that stage.

I’m unreasonably bothered by this choice of guest character.

It’s what tekken deserves.

VF5 REVO changes. So many Eilieen buffs.

I like the block and whiff animations in VF6. The way Akira’s body pivots to the side when he’s crouching and Stella’s high kick whiffs, and the use of multiple body parts and postures when blocking multiple attacks at different heigh levels is a really nice touch. I know MK has several blocking animations, but I can’t recall if 3D fighters have done this decently well yet.

I also like how it seems like it retains the vibe of martial arts movies.

Sega is uploading some mini-doc type stuff and character guides to the new VF youtube channel. Never saw them putting this much effort into Virtua Fighter again. And they brought back one of the commentators from the vanilla VF5’s commentator mode to do voice overs for the character guides! His voice is so soothing. I wonder if he actually worked for Sega or if they specifically re-contracted him just for this.

I feel like this is tailor made for me as a longtime Tekken fan who never got into VF as much because of a primarily console diet. I want to learn despite being a mark for complicated stance and sabaki characters. Plunge accepted.

If you or anyone else needed it, I saw this video earlier today and it looked pretty solid (though in the comments he makes notes some of his character specific recommendations have changed due to balance updates in Revo). One of the things that’s kind of tricky about VF5 I think throws people off, especially due to the game’s reputation, is how simple the game appears and feels at the beginner to intermediate level.

And I mean simple as in just how much of the game revolves around the same single strikes for all characters (5P, 2P, 6P), and both players just trading those single jabs back and forth. But this video does a good job of outlining those simple, universal single strikes (and a few other techniques) and why those form the core layer of VF5’s gameplay. Those three moves (5P, 2P, 6P) are the fastest moves for every character and serve the same functionality for every character: they act as the fastest way to establish your turn (5P), to steal a turn when you’re on defense (2P), and to punish someone for trying to steal a turn (6P).

One of the nice things about VF5 is just how transparent almost all of the move interactions are. You almost always know when it’s your turn to be on offense and when it’s your turn to be on defense. But even if you’re just trading single jabs back and forth, fishing for an opportunity to go for a combo, the high speed of the game’s pace makes that exhilarating to play. It’s very much paced like a Dragon Ball Z rock paper scissors match.

Thanks, I’ll give this a look when I set aside some time.

On a side note, sad to see rooflemonger’s channel get hacked. Feels like he was gearing up to provide lots of resources and it looks like his video archive got nuked

Yeah, at least they’re going for something new here. Not sure I’m quite down with it yet as an actual fighting game to play but it’ll be interesting.

The brief footage reminded me a lot of Dead or Alive to be honest. The stage itself, but also the camera work.

“Stella: The Bridge Between Worlds” makes me wonder if she’s supposed to be a completed Dural clone of Sarah Bryant, since in the story one of the iterations of Dural was based on her.

Whoa, I had no idea! He’d been putting out a lot of VF videos leading up to REVO and it sounded like he’s been a big VF fan for a while. The worst time for something like that to happen.

Oh shoot, I hope it isn’t quite like that–DOA5’s camera gave me motion sickness.
