im playing through the first alan wake (not remastered) and 6 years ago i thought this game sucked but i was wrong it actually kicks ass, maybe transitioning made me less angry (yes) and gave me better perspective on camp (also yes).
weird transition milestone though
alan wake ii seems like the kind of thing Iād enjoy seeing streamed more than playing myself, but I donāt follow any streamers and trying to find one Iād find tolerable seems like too much work, so here I am spending $60 to discover that theyāve called the mind palace a āmind placeā. holistic detection is alive and well in the pacific northwest.
Oh lord you should have at least pirated it
That said I am not above some kind of weekly alan wake 2 stream in some discord or other if there is interest
i was probably going to stream it tomorrow at 640x480 godās resolution if my hard drive comes fast enough, that was my planā¦having to ration out a remedy game for the sake of others actually sounds like a great experience because I normally blast through them in 2 days⦠i would have posted about it sooner but i didnt know i was going to get an ssd so fast
I still hate the camera in alan wake 1 and alan wake remastered is a garbage port with broken animations and broken controls
Oh well, jacking the fov to the max in the regular release and enabling direct aiming at least makes the base camera almost decent
I donāt know why it bothers me so much but it gets in the way of me enjoying the game for what it is
it made the game literally unplayable for me. I thought it was fine in the remaster, but I donāt have a point of reference for what else was compromised or broken there.
enjoying the sequel the further I get into it. I have some small complaints but honestly this is probably the closest thing weāll ever get to another old school silent hill kind of survival horror game, though it never feels too derivative of silent hill. it hits many of the same beats but still very much has its own identity. also kind of remarkable how many mechanics from the first game made it here more or less whole cloth despite the format being entirely different. I like that a lot. itās also cool how the game never really explains how things work with enemies beyond the basic flashlight stuff. Iām like 10 hours in or something and still donāt fully understand how their AI works and what kind of strategies are safe or not. keeps things tense even though the combat and resource management hasnāt been particularly difficult yet, even on hard.
Yeah I think I just get taken out of the experience when Iām thinking so much about the camera and how I have to turn 15 degrees off center in order to run in the direction I actually want to go
I have a kind of brain poison where I only want to download indie games and want physical copies of big AAA games, so I will may never actually get around to this due to the silliest of reasons.
Jumping in to add a bit about control issues, I have one of those 8bitdo hall effect pads and it had very weird issues with right stick/camera control sensitivity being jacked up extremely high and button prompts flickering back and forth between m/kb and gamepad. When I forced the game to launch epic through steam it seemed to sort itself out I guess thanks to steamās better controller support?
I slogged through aw1 and only really enjoyed myself outside of combat, but did it just to get my bearings for thisā¦as said upthread itās not really a must though my time was also really soured by the gamepad thing. AW2 is getting me the nordic crime/weird horror set in PNW that I wanted.
hilariously I had controller issues with control and this was the exact solution for me too
Alan Payne (Pain? ) and Max Wake, please do tell me those games already exist
(no i didnāt goggle- or playstore-search these, because i fear what i may find)
(Max Pain would be a good brawler-title btw)
(Max Wake otoh would be a good game title where you have to stay awake at all costs, and falling asleep is the gameover equivalent. The antithesis for Little Nemo if you think about it, huh)
OK Iām about to go get my ssd which means I will be in fact streaming alan wake for the wonderful masses of selectbuttonā¦
It may be early to say but it does almost bring a tear to my eye that Alan Wake 2 is like 50000x better than anything I could have imagined in the 13 year wait⦠I just feel pure joy every second of playing it. And itās fucking terrifying!
Very millenniumisticā¦
i think this is great so far, though iāve only played three chapters or something. i love that the forest area at the beginnings ends up feeling like a floor of a resident evil mansion in terms of level design, great stuff
came to complain that the quick turn is mapped to double tapping down on the control stick though. what the hell is that. this was a solved problem a decade ago and this was not the solution we chose
Playing on a controller? Damn girl you live like this?
thereās photographic evidence of you playing re village on a controller cuba
I was just trying to empathize. It was a mistake
