I just tried this out on my laptop with a GPU that doesn’t meet minimum requirements. Control initially runs quite nicely on the low display preset and at 720p UI and render resolutions.
But then I got to the battle for the second control point, and the framerate dropped to the teens. The low preset has the texture quality set to medium, so I paused and dropped that setting to low. Upon resuming the battle, the framerate jumped up to 35 fps. But that brought me to the 2-hour point-of-no-return for refunds, so I closed the game.
Gonna mull over whether I want to keep playing or get my money back. In the last few minutes that I played, I honestly couldn’t tell the difference between medium and low texture quality. But I worry at some later point, the game will run too rough to enjoy no matter how I tweak the settings.
Thanks for the warning. My desire to keep playing might outweigh the risk. I think I could accept an even lower resolution and/or turning off ambient occlusion to maintain ~30 fps, but turning off screen space reflections is a line I’m not willing to cross. Anyhow, I think I’ll sleep on it and decide whether to get a refund tomorrow.
I think you’re right about auto-adjusting difficulty after a few deaths. I died three times trying to take the first control point. On my successful attempt, the mini-boss didn’t spawn till after I cleared the room of regular security hiss.
tommasi and the mold fucking suck the worst out of any of them I think. part of it is the fucking 30 second loading screen every time you die and having to run back to the boss every time (the mold must be a nightmare if you miss the control point right before it!!!) and all the fuckin suicide bomber enemies that inevitably show up in every one
Tommasi killed me three times until I just crouched in front of the thing with all the tube cartridges at the front of the room when you walk in. Nothing he threw would hit me when crouched behind that and the enemies that spawned in wouldn’t walk around it. Probably the game making it super easy because it killed me three times.
i’m talking about the second fight with him and i suspect parker is too. i JUST beat him after like a half hour of trying and i’m pretty near the end of the game in power level
both times he gave me trouble. couldn’t do it running around using my powers trying to feel cool had to just hide behind something. the 2nd fight I went under the walkway thing on the right side
i kicked his ass super easily the first time and the second time i stuck around that walkway on the right and just did laps around the room. basically the only reason I managed to do it is because I didn’t get hit for 3/4 of the fight lol
just tried this in 4k and it reminds me of playing Hitman on ps4, it basically swims around 40 frames even on a fairly beefy GPU, but I gotta say it still feels pretty darn good even like this with a controller. I might’ve had a worse time with the earlier encounters before I had more movement options if anything.
I got the ability to upgrade scatter by the time I got to containment for the first time, I just finished the game and I had the ability to upgrade every weapon but pierce. Which I guess is fine because I basically used grip and scatter for the entire game except in boss fights, but the whole weapon form upgrade system seems like its varying degrees of broken right now. I also had a side quest bug out, if you tried to do Old Friends and wonder why one of the guys isn’t showing up, well, its because the quest is broken I guess!!
i went back in the post-game and he still isnt there so idk. im not too broken up about it because with all the other sidequests and a few hidden locations theres still enough points to max out my abilities
