Max Payne / Alan Wake / Quantum Break / Control

I mean that’s basically what they tried to do and Max Payne 3 sold like shit despite being a fantastic game. personally I like where 3 left Max so I’d really only want Remedy to have the IP again to work him into their weird universe again and to make sure no one restarts Max’s endless torment for no good reason. And, also, it’s theirs.

I agree. I have no insight into Rockstar/Take 2’s reasoning but they strike me as ones to hold onto things and take a gamble a decade or more later.

that reminds me rockstar bought the rights to the clue!/the sting! series of games ages ago and have done nothing with it

i cant stop laughing

so hey, on the XB1, CTRL doesn’t look as bad as i feared it might do. And in some places, it looks awesome in its lofi aesthetic…

yeah this thing looks incredible in motion

is it me or is the cadence of the gunfire imposed by the reload timing unusually satisfying

I just unexpectedly recieved this game after having to avoid crowds of PAX nerds trying to cause an enormous traffic accident in downtown Seattle so I am very excited to start playing it

I really want to play this game. My graphics card doesn’t meet the minimum requirements, but there’s some video of the game running with the card. It looks alright by my standards. So I’ll probably get this after the long weekend when I have the time to dig into it.

it’s basically the engine and the encounter design from quantum break except everything else about it is much much better so you’re gonna have a good time

quantum break was good felix

Yeah, they tuned the ammo and power bars such that it feels very fluid to switch back and forth between the two. They both recharge pretty quickly, and it gives the combat a very pleasing rhythm.

the engine and the encounter design were!

in some ways I think quantum break was the better written game, but cern time travel isn’t as cool as 1960s tech blue rose investigation though. and control doesn’t harp on you for collectible shit.

even like, the way in which it compels you to time your shots somehow winds up seeming more cinematic than it might otherwise

it’s pow-pow … pow-pow-pow … pow

even if the writing qua writing is down to preference, the visual and spatial design here is immediately ten times as compelling

I wish there was a way to zoom in further when looking at stuff. These are cigarettes. Some of them have funny names but the one I was looking at is called Payne Hardboiled and the logo is a gun smoking a cigarette.

Really liking this so far. Going to take me a while to finish because I can’t help but stop and poke at everything along the way. Found a couple songs that play on little radios that were really good. The story and setting is very much My Shit. Going to have to keep playing further to experience more powers and weapons but so far this is quickly becoming my favorite Remedy game.

Going to give Quantum Break another chance while it’s still on gamepass. I was kind of turned off by the tv show angle to it when I tried it a while ago. Like I don’t want to have to watch a show while playing a game. I know I don’t have to but I’d feel like I was missing out on stuff if I didn’t. I’ll give it another shot though. The game part itself was good with the time powers.

so is this the spiritual successor to the Lost Room that I’ve been waiting for for years?

I found a TV where I could stop and watch a silly fake TV show and got unreasonably excited so thank you Remedy for giving me more of the content that I crave. I still think about the Lords & Ladies theme song!!!

also yeah Quantum Break rules and I’m glad they managed to incorporate the FMV more seamlessly in this one because I love that shit

I’ve been wondering the same thing.
