Everything else sucks but this is pretty nice IMO
But it was very elegant how the face of the character, facing the camera and surrounded by menu buttons, looked like a character portrait within the game world. And that’s all lost

Im so frustrated they took away tiny things like the POW on hammer, HP & smiley face on the mushroom, character emerging from a warp pipe etc. all the unique touches on the level up screen what is “remake” about scrubbing those out?? Remaking it so its boring now? idont get it
I always get confused why people want remakes of extremely accessible and playable games. This is a SNES game, it’s very easy to emulate well. You can play it right now and it was designed with the constraints it had. It’s not a lesser thing. It was a complete thing. Especially with like, Squeenix stuff. Every Dragon Quest except maybe like, DQ2, X, and IX, are easy to play and hold up today. Same with most of the FF games. There are patches that unfuck the mechanical changes for the american market in IV like…what more do you want??
yeah idk to pass my sniff test a remake has to be more accessible & at least as appreciable. Like i want more people to be able to play SMRPG, and if they have to pay money for it then it should at least be a good step sideways if not an upgrade. This is like… less weird and distinct looking than the original game, and not as fun to look at… cmonnn im poking it with a stick dooo something fresh or im just gonna say emulate the original
Could they not at least put sonic IN this one??
seriously, it’s egregious to use a font for mass transit system signage and office memoranda to tell a whimsical fantasy story about a world with no industrial base
edit: wait, aren’t the sentient sword guys who are invading the world in this pretty industrial? even worse!
all anyone cares about is putting things IN sonic
literally worse than a parody https://youtu.be/v-9nfbCqvBk?si=78B3OrKJ0iMC8bFE
Hi, I’m picky, and these are my nits.
are they afraid of the word Magic?
Or does that stand in for Multiple goomba?
Ive played through super mario rpg the legend of the seven stars like 6 times i cant fathom what 2 Chain Small Boost Action Gauge Mg. Attack has to do with any of it. I know about timed hits!! is that not enough
as someone who was going through the original recently, this UI stuff is disappointing but if there were solid quality of life improvements (plus the ability to revert to OG soundtrack) i could see picking this one up and playing it. being able to play it portability is a plus if you’re like me and play shit all the time on Switch and only have the original on an SNES Classic (and don’t have an emulator handheld system)
it does seem like a lot of nostalgic soul has been ripped from this so i don’t know if it’s gonna be worth the 60 bucks. might just be better tempted to save that money for the Thousand Year Door remaster
i can’t believe they did all this instead of just putting geno in smash. i guess if that is the end result then it will have all been worth it.
I mean I’m stealing it and playing it on my computer, I don’t have a working switch since it got busted and I realized that it sucks to use in handheld AND regular mode so I never fixed it. it’s not actually portable that thing is misery to use on a bus. I hate the controllers so much. I’ve been anti switch for a million years so that’s not the problem. I’m just doing this FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME and there are very few games I know inside and out, and they never get remade (there will be no air fortress remake, there will be no total distortion remake, there will be no eternal eyes remake) so it’s a rare opportunity to be disappointed in a way I usually just see you all post about
also how is reverting to the original soundtrack a QUALITY OF LIFE FEATURE the music is just in the original game already. the quality of life feature would then just be playing the snes game which yes you’re probably right
i mean the ideal situation for me personally would just be to put the original on the SNES online thing on the switch but that isn’t the case.
i get ya on the switch controllers thing, i had to get one of those joycons that look more like xbox controllers to be able to comfortably fit in my hands for a long period of time. otherwise it cramps my hands so much.
select button
a rare opportunity to be disappointed
I have this game on snes and it’s hooked up I just broke the TV that can play it. but I also have it installed on veronica’s vita that was a really awesome way to play it. maybe I’ll do a side by side playthrough
WAIT are you an eternal eyes head too???
yeah see THIS one has never been rereleased and gamecube emulation is functional but maybe not as accessible depending on someone’s computer
Im just annoyed and confused at the weird slickness of the UI because the characters and animations look extremely faithful to the original! im sure in context itll fall by the wayside but wow what a jarring choice
Its a more minor example but indicative of something that does bother me a lot about remakes, like the horrible FF/DQ mobile UI, or the bluepoint remasters or anytime pixel smoothing filters are applied automatically. Fonts, technical compromises like fogging and pixels accounting for CRT, these are considered artistic choices! you cant just sleekify them and expect them to mesh well lol, its such a pet peeve of mine!!
