what was the horizon 2 situation

more awful game industry consolidation/games press being strip-mined news today.

seems like several key people have been laid off in its wake also

it’s especially sad to see the last vestiges of Rock Paper Shotgun circa early 2010s be hollowed out.

game with a really well written female protagonist ends up having a sequel with embarrassingly worse writing

(this is my guess based on the linked review and prior discussions about horizon 2’s bad writing)

yeah that’s basically it, a game with a really strong protag I could immerse myself in getting ruined in a mediocre sequel

Maybe it could be a better L4D sequel than Back 4 Blood. Or, maybe not.

The King is Watching is a roguelite kingdom builder. But there’s a twist - your lazy peasants only work when you’re watching. Keep a watchful eye on them, or everything stops. Strategically place buildings and your gaze to balance resources gathering, production, and army training.

So a while ago I posted a tweet about someone working at Nintendo getting a character who is trans in the original JP version of Paper Mario 2 to be trans in the English version of the remake, but the tweet was revealed to be a hoax.

But now I’m seeing from multiple sources that this actually DID happen??

I’m going to wait for sources I actually trust for confirmation, but looks promising

Hard Mode: everything not only stops but reduces, and status will be faked. When the enemy comes, the real balance of resources will show up.

These two games just came out and both look promising.

I knew AI was getting pretty advanced, but a cash register making a game is something else!

I played the first hour or so of Isles of Sea & Sky today and it starts out REALLY promising. Beautiful aesthetics, especially the music. The puzzles are chewy and satisfying but so far not so difficult they turn me away. The zelda style exploration is really well done, and little secrets are fun to find. Huge recommendation so far!
