Give me video game music styled after Van Der Graaf Generator or give me death.
Hell, just have Peter Hammill sing in a video game. Gamers aren’t ready for his energy!

80s King Crimson for life
The pinnacle of prog is the Hungarian group, After Crying, and Megalázottak és megszomorítottak is their masterpiece
derek yu wrote a blog about finishing games which i took as advice not knowing any better and is responsible about 3 or 4 years of misery so im biased
there’s also the famous “Please Finish Your Game” talk in 2010 by noted game finisher Chris Hecker (yes he’s still working on Spy Party).
i should write a “dont finish your game, maybe” blog.
Some people need to be told to just finish things and put them out there(me, I need to be told this) while for others it is the worst advice that can exist
Oh man I’d forgotten about the [whatever] 50 game. Was interested in it years ago after Downwell. Hm but looks like they’ve gone for lots of white flash FX on sprites
so I guess I can miss it, ah well.
Personally I hate finishing things. Work on it forever, put it out continuously for free, rely on Patreon. ^ ^)
i think i played ufo 50 the last time i was at pax which was maybe 2015
wishing the people who write these tough love style blogs got any kind of affection from their parents growing up
i think jeff is cute
i have had to suffer through so many blogs of people who purportedly know better telling me that failure was all but guaranteed instead of actual practical production observations. it eternally feels like im getting talked down to for having the audacity of asking the question. its impossible to take these words seriously when it feels like a parent scolding a child
every once in a while i’m in a library i sit around and think “wow, there are so many books and i have no idea how it’s possible that so many people have written so many words that so few people might read” and then i go back to being like “man it’s cool that libraries exist”
whenever i see articles like the too many games one i’m reminded of this
I always think it’s good to remember that the “too many games” take, which we’ve heard over and over for years and years now, only makes sense from a marketing perspective. If your fundamental reason for making a game is to get rich or famous, then yes, there are too many games. In fact, it would be better if there were no games, and you were working on the only one that would ever exist. It’s secret lust for a monopoly…the classic dream of businesspeople. Not artists.
well, you know how it is, i love to see people create and make things because they’re having fun doing it. i’m ambivalent to negative about encouraging people to monetise their creations. if someone or something becomes a “content creator” their output should be routed through a pipeline straight to the lower mantle.
Dude in that too many games article says more people should be in church and thinks capitalism is good. I’m going to toss his thoughts on art into the fire pit.
