not remakes but the most coen bros. esque chinese director imho is Jiang Wen, hilariously now best known as Donnie Yen’s friend in Rogue One. Let the Bullets Fly especially has the same kind of energy and just enough hatred for its own characters to feel very spicy. His earlier movie Devils on the Doorstep is way darker and I frankly found it incredibly depressing, but in a lot of ways it is still technically a comedy.

Jiang Wen is my favorite Chinese director. I like his big ears.

Wild Goose Lake also hits a tone that’s similar to the Coens, specifically No Country. It’s misanthropic and the violence is couched in absurdity.

I watched Let the Bullets Fly years ago on your recommendation and loved it.
