(Dragon Pilot is a good show)

I avoided the other thread because there were an intimidating number of unread posts and I got in on the ground floor of this one

Update on Fruit’s Basket: I’m 16 episodes in and it is exactly the same as the original show still. There’s a few differences here and there, and almost all of em are for the worse. For example, the one where Tohru’s friends (the biker gang thug and the psychic) visit to make sure her living situation is acceptable has now been changed so that there’s never any cutesy hijinks where they accidentally transform the Soma boys into animals and they all gotta run around hiding it. In the new one, they have a nice dinner and breakfast with no discernible issue, and are then on their way.

Anyways, that said, there’s a few tweaks I like a lot. Momiji, the little blonde-haired bidoof that’s actually the rabbit, now has a german accent which makes him even more adorable. And, as a bonus, it somehow makes it even sadder when we hit the ep where he tells the story about his mom rejecting him! Didn’t make it through that one without sobbin’ lots!!

i was onboard with FB until the shit trans episode which definitely reminded me this has gender politics straight from the 90s

also re: Trigger, LWA is only jokingly leftist (it’s very sympathetic to the striking fairies but akko ultimately puts down her bullhorn) but i will blabber at anyone about how i love kill la kill for selling antifascism to anime nerds using the power of big tity

you made the right call there

Yeahhh… been noticing that too. It basically takes place in a universe where gender is like, completely strictly defined, down to the way the mystical curse works.

They could’ve done something special by having the curse only effect them depending on what gender their true selves identified as, but, yeah, nothing close to that nuanced. They frame anyone cross-dressing as a gag, or a quirk, which is disappointingly the bog standard for anime and JRPGs.

I’m kinda unclear if anyone who they tease as gay is actually gay, too. I’m going to pessimistically assume no and it’s just for fanservice.

i showed the OVA to my partner at the time and they were like ‘ugh why’s this cute girl anime have panty shots and kill dragons’ and to be fair both those things are true

The panty shots are fucking embarrassing I had blocked them out

you sure y’all remembering right about those panty shots

Trigger just puts featureless purple voids that start mid-thigh whenever anyone got even close to showing anything (I think it only happens with Akko anyway because she is a dumb idiot and wears her uniform like she would back home with the skirt hiked up). they were pretty careful to keep both the shorts and the TV show pretty family friendly

also what’s wrong with kill dragons

if I’m remembering right dragons were revealed at one point to just be a bunch of jaded stock traders so fuck em

Little Witch Academia is adorable and funny and gorgeous and wholesome and i won’t stand for anyone here impugning it with their false panty shot memories

there are more panty shots in Kiki’s Delivery Service than there are in LWA

well when you put it that way, i hate it

honestly, asshole day trader dragon is a pretty funny and logical progression from gold hoarding dragon

also I’m just now realizing how my antagonism over LWA looks with my avatar over yonder

The thing that makes it hardest to embrace Kill La Kill for me is the way Mako’s family leers at Ryuko, especially when it’s treated as kinda cute.

I really like so much of it though, but am reluctant to ever talk that much about it outside the Axe.

i wonder if im immune to the leering because of how much it happened to me as a teenager so im just like ‘yeah it do be like that.’

i like all the fighting and explosions and tweening and her friendship with the talking outfit and just how EVIL the fashion mom is and the whole fucking second half with the clothes. i like how much ryuko hates being girly even though everyone ogles over her constantly and brings up those qualities in her. mako stopping every episode to be adorable is the best

its definitely like, Eat the WHOLE Cake the anime
even the fondant
even the fucking candles

That is an incredible description of KLK.

The Kansai Invasion episode was on TV and I had a big dumb smile on my face.

Lady Rude likes anime but refuses to admit it. If a good anime is on TV she will sit and watch it enraptured. She went on about what the hell is this show (KLK).
