I only saw the first ep but it was basically just repeating stuff we’ve already seen but in the further future with blander proxies of the original cast, just felt real pointless. About the only notable thing was now Shige was the stern old maintenance boss and is still played by Shigeru Chiba who did his voice in the anime.
My favorite patlabor stuff is all the day in the life of a police force trying there best + mech vehicles. The movies are such a departure from that I don’t even see the point of it being “Patlabor” exactly. They are very pretty however. I seem to remember the twisted face man (Kazundo Gouda) from season 2 of gits having a direct analog in the second or third patlabor film. Its been a long long time and those movies kinda failed to imprint much on my memory.
should i watch dirty pair
dirty pair is very good
either the original tv series or the movie, Project Eden, are great to watch
yeah, definitely
Yes.
I cannot abide any governing body that endorses Gall Force
An anime I’ve actually watched this year! It was alright–even with five minutes’ worth of actual animation per ep!
The same person who recommended it later recommended Symphogear, which is not alright. She also recommended Little Witch Academia, which I really enjoyed, so what I guess I’m saying is that anime can be fine, sometimes.
It’s a very cute show I have no problem telling others about
no one actually likes Symphogear, but we’re 7 years deep into memes so for those of us who watch it, quitting now would be dumb
i think i dropped LWA halfway through the season, does it ever top episode 8?
I can’t remember where the first half of the show’s peak is exactly, but I liked all of it. The first half of the season was definitely more enjoyable than the second half, though.
LWA is so cute & fun and manages to pander to me perfectly by having a moomins episode, a super robot episode, and an organized labor episode all in one season
it’s funny because I almost posted a screenshot with the same line
also the Lotte episodes are the worse, says grown man with Lotte nendo on his desk
Late to this convo - as a whole I love it a lot, but SAC did shine brighter in the aughts. Though the direction is still incredible. Without a Kanno ost to well up emotion and aesthete-kinetics, Kenji Miyazawa’s writing chops would remain great (if not too dry had a mediocre score happened).
The better episodes are also far in and same with 2nd Gig iirc.
Delicious that the “Japanese cartoons” thread, which in its OP suggested changing “anime” to “Japanese cartoons” in our lexicon, which partially has the effect of making more permeable the separation between Japanese cartoons and the rest of the cartoons has established itself as the place, separate from everything else, to talk about Japanese cartoons on Select Button when the place to do so up until now has been in the thread simply known as “Cartoons.”
pft, I use the cartoons thread for all kinds of shitposting
pretty sure I’m the only person to have posted about Secret of Kells, Voltron and Tada BandriGolden Time in there
like, if y’all want, I can indulge you in long form diarrhea about Heybot, Shield Hero, Dragon Pilot, the new Rocko special and probably whatever trash I’m watching this season
