it's more fun to emulate

After years of playing Etrian Odyssey games on 3DS Android emulators and having it be laggy despite upgrading to more and more powerful emulation handhelds, I always assumed the lag was always going to be the case because of inherent emulation inaccuracy. Instead, it turns out just turning V-sync off makes it play at full speed???

Wish I could’ve told myself that years ago

Not like it’s a major dealbreaker for a turn based RPG, but it never felt good to have the cursor lag in every menu, y’know?

Someone in the house is sick (not me) which is like the only time I PC game so I tried some Xbox emulation.

Kabuto Chojin ran in frame a second.

Otogi in xemu ran the tutorial stage fine then the framerate went into nothing for the first actual stage. Maybe I’ll try Otogi 2 a different time.

I briefly considered how to get custom soundtracks working, which involved a 17 minute video. I just wanted to play Black as intended (listening to Andrew WK’s Get Wet on repeat.)

Support for Triforce arcade games (F-Zero AX, Mario Kart Arcade GP, etc.) has finally hit Dolphin:

I have been working on getting retronas working, today I got ps2 games loading over smb which is working a lot better on my slim than either of the memory card things

I guess all the mister stuff is next? Maybe ps3 after that… oh, no, probably batocera. The newer release should be working better with Lindbergh games

My NAS is getting fairly full but there are a ton of zfs snapshots I could stand to clean up

A good blog post on how difficult emulator communities can be.

Just feel all the things around Dolphin over the years almost could be made into a documentary series.

Always fascinating to learn and have it confirmed over and over that pokemon players are the single worst thing you can inflict on an emulation community.

Cannot for the life of me get Saturn stuff to run properly in Retroarch. Finally got some BIOS files that work, but any game I load just goes to the CD player. Is it my hubris for converting them all to CHD? The crime of wanting to save some space?

Do you have different results depending on the game region? If so then it might be a bios issue like @aislesgrises had

Not sure. Looking at the core info I have all the BIOS files it’s looking for, I just can’t load up any games. Standalone emulators work, so the games are probably fine, I just dunno.

despite what ymer said i don’t think it was a bios issue and also we never solved it.

mednafen/beetle saturn refuses to run american games for us. they work with other, less accurate cores. pal and japanese releases run just fine tho. never figured out why its like this. can you load your games using other cores?

For other systems, for the most part. Beetle HW won’t work for my Playstation CHDs, but Swanstation will. Downloaded a full BIOS set off GitHub that’s supposed to cover everything for Retroarch, so I dunno.

I got over myself and installed xemu (xbox emulator) and found the proper images for it. I was getting great and really bad performance so I knew it was bottled necked on my gamer-laptop somewhere. You don’t go from 60fps to 11fps to 60fps. What fixed it was turning off v-sync.

So now I can play Otogi and Double S.T.E.A.L. at full speed if I feel like it.

Oh shit, I should finally play through Panzer Dragoon Orta. I had the disc back in the day but my Xbox 360 would always crash it after the first boss

I cannot find an answer to this. Setting up Vita emulator seems like a big pain when I only want to play one game and can’t even tell if it will work or not. I want to play Tuffy and the Tower of Bones, a Playstation Mobile game. Do Playstation Mobile games work?

it seems like Vita emulator is several more steps than, “download exe, click start.” And is closer to a virtual machine where you have to install things in the emulator.

Yeah I think you gotta download the firmware from Sony like you would emulating PS3. And some games just will not work without the latest patches applied.
