i am going to make some videos showing off various games relatively soon (maybe in a week or two? super busy this weekend). please request if there’s a specific game you’d like to see emulated
Mario Kart 7 (citra) runs flawlessly after you play a few races. finished unlocking most of the characters… but frickin waluigui still eludes me after getting heavily mario kart’d right at the end of the championship, going from first to fifth in 3-5 seconds, and losing first place by 2 points :'(. game is great, love it. neo bowser city music is amazing… slightly less “heavy” than MK8/DX, but similar feel otherwise
MGS4 (RCPS3) crashed on me once (during the intro cinematic), but otherwise was running fine as far as i can tell. i assume there’s more i can be doing to make this game run stable, but i did play about 15 minutes without anything beyond that one intro crash.
all the shmups i tried worked on xenia (xbox 360 emu). Espgaluda 2, Guwange, Mushimesama, DoDonPachi SOJ, Shikigami no Shiro III… flawless. i suspect you don’t need a 360 for this stuff anymore… despite very brief plays (mostly just stage 1s and first bosses) i couldn’t find any issues with any of it
The games in Tomb Raider Trilogy are all on PC, although the version of TR Legend in the collection is an oddball that’s a little different than the PC version I’m familiar with. It’s not the PS2 version, which a lot of media implied, but it has some lighting I haven’t seen a PC version replicate exactly. The only really unique thing is that you got Lara Croft and a Legend of the Hidden Temple guard skin for Playstation Home from it (rip).
Somehow Bulletwitch made it to PC, you can buy it on steam, and it is the only Cavia game to do so (not counting Nier since the recent port had a lot of quality of life changes made to it)
fixed, thank you! bullet witch is on pc, huh? time to get on that train
I’ve been working on a playthrough of that version of Bullet Witch since release and for a 3 hour 6 stage game is saying something.
It is very fickle whether it will work day to day.
this was rosalina. waluigui is ABSENT. these fucks…
full throttle had a menu??? I didn’t remember that at all. this is what they’ve taken from us. nvidia also calls dosbox wolfenstein 3d for some reason.
Do you know if I need to continue running TOTK using this optimizer, or does the app patch the game and I can just launch it through Citron afterwords?
you can run it directly thru citron after you patch it!
So of course I quite foolishly pseudo-bricked (stuck in update loop) my jailbroken PS3 by say aw heck let’s try this new Sony 4.92 firmware update. ; )
(Managed to get the drive working again finally by putting it in PS4, installing PS4 system on it–to wipe the drive and stop the PS3 update loop–then putting back in PS3 and doing from-scratch install of 4.91. And then re-jailbreaking, naturally. : D)
So yeah don’t do that. ; D
RPCS3 seems fine with 4.92 though (at least for the 3 games I’ve tried so far: VF5FS, SSX, GT5XL).

CFW 4.92 is out https://www.psx-place.com/threads/4-92-evilnat-w-cobra-v8-5-cex-dex-pex-d-pex.39743/
To upgrade from CFW 4.91 I just had to put the PUP file in PS3/UPDATE on a USB stick and update from media drive as you would normally–except first I had to enable debug settings:
Enable Debug settings: [ Network column of XMB ] - Custom Firmware Tools - QA Tools - Enable QA Flags (Advanced) – select that, then go to Settings - Network Settings – with Network Settings highlighted, press L1+L2+R1+R2+L3+dpad_down ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cciN9RNuRPw – except mine didn’t show any confirmation after)
: P
After the system update (no reboot!–can check ver under Settings - System Settings - System Information), chose PS Store, had to do a 48 MB store update, then 48 MB store update to version 1.28 (??)…then waited for what felt like nearly a minute of a loading animation…and was in the store!
Gonna be very excited to look into this in six months when the kinks are ironed out.
having had to deal lucasarts installers and setups now after sierra origin and id ones I’m starting to think the lack of deaths and dead ends in their adventures games wasn’t out of some game design genius and more that they just loved doing the absolute bare minimum over there
zak mcraken and maniac mansion didn’t even have installers!
Reminds me of Al Lowe’s statement that Sierra games were allowed to have obtuse and illogicial puzzles because PC gaming in the 80s was a self selected group of the sort of people who were ok with writing their own command.com boot disks to allocate RAM for specific games they wanted to run, and once DOS was able to handle defining what was considered hi-memory istead of extended memory by itself the bullshit tolerance of the audience cratered.
All problems with the youth are because they never had to edit autoexec.bat
speaking of all I had to do to get ultima 7 to run in dosbox was add this to the config file
[dos]
ems=false
I seem to remember it being considerably more involved on an actual 386, which was how I spent new years 1999 awaiting y2k doom.
Getting late-90s Origin games to start up was harder than their final boss
At one point I realized that DOS mouse drivers varied widely in how much RAM they ate. I started deliberately using the smallest one I had: shaving off a free 5k of RAM simplified the autoexec.bat puzzles a lot. And whenever I loaded up a new pirate floppy that included a mouse driver I hadn’t seen before, it was like finding a new type of sword in a treasure chest
this is why inventory management is fun
switch emulation report
pikmin 4 - the tutorial videos will bug out if you switch to a new one before letting the first one finish, and maybe just eventually anyway. fixes itself if you restart the game. otherwise basically perfect (on nvidia cards, anyway)
DDP DOJ - flawless
DDP SDOJ - flawless
Espgaluda II - flawless
ESP Ra De Psi - flawless
