Is 'E-3', close enough for our hips to start gyrating?

Contra is the Final Fantasy of action games, every one is different and the only thing linking them are certain recurring motifs and themes!

actually I think the entirety of the Contra franchise has an overarching plot (except for 4, which seemingly retcons HC IIRC) if not starting from the original, then very much from III on

yes, even Legacy of War and C Adventure

Literally Who Cares

the guy who directed Alien Wars and Hard Corps and this new game does?

oh, and the producer for 4, who is on the record as not seeing HC as a real Contra game

How about Hard Corps Uprising? Is that canon?

I have no idea but literally all you have to do is drop the words “Alien Wars” somewhere and bam, canon

Okay, so, no one important, glad we have established that once again I am correct

hey

hey

hey there

i care about Contra canon ok

there’s a plot that follows Bill Rizer from Contra 1 until they freeze him in carnobite or whatever and keep waking him up in the future and then there are some that are the immediate aftermath of 3

however the most compelling thing is that the Earth is completely overrun with fascism and eternal war hahahaha sigh

You forgot that bill is actually in prison for 10000 years for somehow personally exterminating most of the human race, and kept alive cryogenically so that he may live out the sentence. That’s heavy as fuck

the gulf between the Avengers game and MUA3 feels fucking bizarre

Avengers: here have some off-brand MCU-looking people in a weird plot that seems to be invoking the MCU saga but also can’t be because half of those fuckers died or something

MUA3: everything looks like a goddamn comic and you go around punching shit and you’re gonna dunk on Thanos and also we threw in a Nextwave character because lol why not

I want to pin this down to AAA vs. Nintendo but Marvel has their fingers all over everything now so what’s the deal

I bet The Avengers has been in development longer, too, because it’s clear that it was pitched in the era of ‘Never ever EVER mention the X-___’.

Conversely, Ultimate Alliance is showing off fucking magneto showing up thanos as would have happened in decades past because who doesn’t think Magneto cooler than thanos? But that was pretty much verboten from marvel games for years, indicating that this game was probably mostly in development after the fox deal was already starting to happen.

(Sidenote: someday the term terrigen mists is going to pinpoint the exact decade a marvel thing is from because now that mutants are back, Inhumans are never going to matter again)

I’m sorry I find the whole ‘what characters appear because of corporate ownership’ interesting. I know this is a deep character flaw on my part.

With the various parallel worlds and time-fuckery most Marvel/DC fans are pretty used to the idea of storylines starting off with a bunch of familiar characters that definitely died For Realsies coming back with some handwavy reason. So long as it lets a new group dynamic play out, canon is only what Holds At This Present Moment.

pretty sure Squenix/CD announced the project a couple of years ago so, yeah

MUA3 wasn’t unveiled until December so the initial dev probably predated the buyout but also everything is super Not Movie-aesthetic so :boh:

I, for one, enjoy it when companies perform multi-million dollar A/B tests.

Soda A: cutscenes and promises of free updates

Soda B: gameplay with frequent framedrops but the slowdown looks kind of cool and also a bunch of other heroes people like

seems like a unbiased experiment
