Impresarios of Mario Scenarios

I really wish following people would tell you, y’know, when they make levels???

I get a notification every time Sally and Joe play my levels, but you can’t tell me when my friends make them?

I wish it followed all your damn Switch friends.

Yeah, unfortunately the UI is still bullshit because Nintendo = Nintendo. But it’s close to usable!

I appreciate this thread for letting me try a bunch of good levels I would normally never think to click on.

This game is giving me so much joy! It’s almost like I enjoy video games again.

This level is dope. The platforming is fun, and there’s a bunch of hidden stuff I checked out on subsequent runs.

My execution could be slightly tighter, but my route is really good I think!

Impressive! I can only beat about a minute.

Thank you! My favorite kinds of Mario levels are the ones where the path to the exit is relatively straight forward but there’s lots of hidden areas and stuff if you hang out and poke around a bit.

My next level is going to be bigger and more of a sprawl.

Alright cleaned it up a bit. I’ll be very impressed if someone beats this.

I missed the screenshot in the moment because I was too used to retrying but I’m the World Champion of all Marina Hills levels! 00’13"426

Also I saw you stole Hoppin’ n’ Boppin’ from me Hobo but I have to go to bed!

I was not at all following how your overlay pipes were working. How did you do that?

It’s not overlay – you can’t in MM2. It’s abuse of scroll stop. Did you beat the level or no? I’d be very surprised if you did without learning that lesson.

this is more of a proof of concept than anything particularly inventive and challenging, but hey

Yeah that’s what I’m talking about. I couldn’t beat it. Ran out of time before I could find rhyme or reason to what was going on.

Made a new stage. Pretty straightforward SMB3-style stage, pretending like it’s from World 7. Pretty hard, though.

Ah yeah, the part past the checkpoint is much less straightforward than the first half of that level. Pay attention to how the camera is situated after going through a pipe. You can also just sort of treat them like they don’t take you to consistent places and try every combination; you’ll eventually get a lightbulb sfx, and that place will have you confront it more directly.

Okay yeah I actually went back this morning and just went back through the first pipe I went into and that helped me a lot. The first time playing it I thought you were legitimately sending me to a different location when I went backwards through the pipe. I see you added some things to try to identify the different areas, but it’s so thoroughly disorienting that I had no idea. I didn’t actually finish the level because I got soft-locked under the horizontal pipe and had to run, but I think I’ve got it now. Essentially to beat it, it seems I just need to figure out how to trigger the switch block in the room with the vines without letting the scroll-lock me out of going back to the right.

never thought there would be a 2d mario game on a nintendo system that i’d play with the analog stick because the d-pad is so bad but here we are

I’ll have to check when I get home because I can’t think of any horizontal pipe you could soft lock yourself with. That’s a bummer if that’s possible since you’d either have to time out or restart the whole level.

EDIT: Oh, fuck, I figured it out. That’s unfortunate! I’ll probably need to upload a new version to fix that, because that’s very frustrating. If only Nintendo had added a “restart from checkpoint” option. I feel like if they played or thought about Mario Maker 1 at all, that would have been a very obvious feature to add!

Some courses could be played more or less with multiple game styles and it’s really cool to see the same stage look so different (for example, my “Pipe Bridge” stage works fine in any of the four styles). Kinda wish it was possible to let players select a graphic style for these.

Though even if that were possible, Pipe Bridge being made of pipes is canon.
