Thanks! I’ll post the code when I’m at home and not crumpling-into-a-ball exhausted.
Oh no, I think I have a pretty wild puzzle level going again. I really hope I can tutorialize it well enough!
Though some of you have already played it: https://twitter.com/mark_delafuente/status/1154582671764279297?s=21

I wish you could flag an enemy to stay dead once you kill them
Does giving them a key work? I know clear conditions make it so enemies that satisfy the clear condition don’t respawn, but obviously this is less flexible than a key.
nope, that was actually the scenario I ran into. I gave a boom boom a key to a door that the player has to enter, pick up a yoshi, and then go back through. re-entering the door respawns the boom boom, which is a bit janky.
The other thing you could do is try spawn blocking them. If an enemy occupies the same space as a wall or block on spawn, this will force the enemy to disappear. The easiest way to do this is with switch blocks. When you first enter the room, ensure the switches are in the position that makes the blocks over boom boom empty. Then, when going back through the door, make sure the switch is in the other position so that the walls are there and stop boom boom from spawning.
Obviously this puts some constraints on how else you use on/off blocks in your level.
Bullet bill launchers are another way to spawn block (and they can be spawn blocked themselves), but those setups are more complicated, and you’d still need something change between rooms.
An example: you could overlay boom boom on tall launchers, and overlay destructible blocks on the launchers. Make sure the player has to destroy these blocks when traversing the room (bombs for hard blocks, big powerup for bricks, etc) so when you re-enter the room the blocks no long spawn-block the launchers, which in turn spawn block boom boom.
this is definitely one for the gamer slang thread because out of context it sounds like a four year old biologist is trying to control the growth of an invasive species
“What do POWs do when no one is watching?” Mario asked. The POWs answered.
Here’s the new puzzle level I’ve been working on. I’m not confident I taught the concept well enough (because it’s pretty dumb and weird) so this may just be the first iteration! The puzzles escalate, so hopefully you can get past the first couple rooms to at least get the idea behind it. I don’t expect too many to beat it, cause it gets pretty difficult by the end, but it’d be nice if the beginning was somewhat approachable.
@ everyone
One of my first levels just got a couple hundred plays in a short time and someone left a penis sketch in the comments. I’ve made it.
Enjoy my new stream of consciousness level,
Burbott Mountain Temple
J3M 12R J1G
It’s inspired by games like Dark Souls and Mega Man but really it’s just me putting down shit. I think it’s pretty alright!
Also it’s tough!
One of my courses also got a huge boost but I haven’t gotten any dicks, unfortunately.
Did someone submit our stuff to a streamer or something?
trying to do Poo’s shell jump tutorial and when i get to the double shell jump i just want to crumple into a pile of dry bones. nope nope nope
Hang in there. This doesn’t mean your level is bad.
my level still has only 10 plays. wtf. play my level
Says 20 on my switch – I’ve noticed the menu that holds your maker points and your own levels doesn’t refresh that often. You have to completely shut down and restart the game to get it to update. IDK why it doesn’t have a refresh button like all the other menus.
that’s bonkers. thank you
I spent an embarrassing amount of time this weekend grinding for 100 world records in the new courses queue, and all I have to show for it is a pair of swim trunks.
(Apparently there is also a reward for getting 500 WRs, which would put me in the top 150 on the worldwide leaderboard, but I’m not going to do that.)
Back to making levels and playing actually good levels (and contemplating the cosmological implications of Yamamura being present in both the story mode and the maker tutorials).
