I don’t know if it’s just my PS2 model or what but this is the only PS1/PS2 game in my collection that DOESN’T output sound through the optical digital cable. Gotta go RCA with this one…
Yeah, I’ve noticed the highs tend to linger in his work from that era. Compensating for most games being played through shitty 14" CRT speakers, I’d wager.
EDIT: my copy of SO arrived from the ACT in like three days, damn
I think part of it also, is that if you’ve been replaying these games through an emulator most psx emulators have the shittiest sound emulation, often dropping or changing the actual sound filters that were present on original hardware. FF7 suffers a lot from it, but the worst victim I’ve found so far is definitely Breath of Fire 4 which last time I tried only sounded good when played in Xebra. (tbf this was before mednafen psx was mature enough to take seriously. I’m sure mednafen can emulate these games properly)
Yeah, it’s definitely annoying. Nothing an adjustable low-pass filter in the config couldn’t fix, either. But who cares about audio, right?
re: Sky Odyssey, it’s tickling my flyboy fancies. I crashed four times on the Labyrinth mission - twice because I tried to be cool and do rolls just before a 90° turn, and twice while trying to take off from the ruins. Does the game account for thin air when taking off at high altitudes? Because it certainly bloody feels like it does!
EDIT: Okay 90% of my crashes are me trying to be fucking Sky Captain so maybe I should reign it i–naaaaaaaah
I mastered Knights of the Round on original hardware and no, the music was insufferable then too.
