we used to be friends lol
grimy muskerfucker
Just discovered another good artist today when this song came up in my rotation. (I guess it was in some compilation I got somewhere.)
i don’t know anything about these hyperspecific genres but i feel like there are elements of the dungeon to be found in the output of this duo who have a very special place in my heart
(i know that says tumblr but don’t be afraid the link is to their bandcamp)
it’s so good
it is?
i made a long twitter rant about grimes and the way people turned on her because i guess despite her aesthetic it was always p obvious to me that she was a glossier version of a scene adjacent to pple who loved witch house, tumblr, and crystal castles but without any real integrity or staying power just based on her squeaky clean appearance alone.
it always seemed like a socially acceptable ( wrt art kids ) weirdness and her being a ’ class traitor ’ always sounded so ridiculous to me because she was never once a prole.
the same people who screeched ab her having ’ anti-imperialist ’ in her bio are also the same ones that willfully ignored that she described herself as a ’ yuppie ’ too. i wish people would maybe not put artists on these pedestals and assign them this sort of ideal version of _____ status and then throw a tantrum when that artist decides they don’t actually give a fuck ab integrity or anything that their fans do and just follow the money.
this is the same person that thought p*ssy rings was feminism lmao like get a grip.
i’m saying all this to say that i still listen to her stuff sometimes and i don’t really care but it’s probably because even when i was a stan i didn’t bite the hook. it was pretty clear who she was the entire time and my sister says the saddest things and pin will always be bops.
seeing a lot of the same stuff coalescing around billie eilish
billie eilish needs to be checked honestly because saying shit like ’ hip hop is fake ’ is coded language afaic. i’ve never listened to her and after those comments i probably never will. just say that you hate black culture and leave. i could be generous and say that she probably hasn’t been exposed to a ton of it and is just like those kids you knew in middle and high school that only listened to rock and like thought they were special for it because rock music is ’ more genuine ’ and that it’s a phase she’ll grow out of but yeah.
it always goes back to anti-blackness sorry.
New Sidewalks and Skeletons is good!
oh yessss
Every so often one of the songs from these Russian albums jumps out at me and I go looking for more by the artist. This is my new discovery for today (not just this song, but I really like this song):
Edit: This one is pretty good, too, and nearly twice as long. I guess I wouldn’t really call either of these witch house, even if the song that led me to them was on a witch house compilation.
This one is from Ukraine. (Actually, I think multiple witch house musicians in the compilations I listen to a lot are from Ukraine.)
Okay, this artist (Silver Strain a.k.a. §) has quickly become a favorite. Aside from the Twin Peaks song, there are several other good ones. For example:
Also, I used Midjourney to generate an image representing witch house music. Here’s what I ended up with:
I also got some nice haunted houses out of the deal:
Stumbled upon some new (to me) songs that I like.
Edit: And a couple more.
Yet another good △Sco△ song.
Edit: Okay, and this one as well.
This track has to be in my top ten witch house songs. I wish I could find a list of all the songs this artist sampled. I’ve been able to figure out maybe half of those I even recognize as distinct sources. (He took his life not long before I discovered his work.)
A few more favorites by various others:
