I have just modded my Wii

Wii mod chronicles episode 3: incremental improvements

I made Priiloader skip the health warning and load the homebrew channel on startup. Now I don’t have to touch the Wiimote when I just wanna play some Gamecube. Probably not entirely necessary, as I just figured out that Nintendont allows me to use the Classic Controller to play Gamecube games, which kind of freaks me out. (Didn’t Nintendo say this is technically impossible?)

Also note to myself: get good quality microSD cards. The new no-name 64GB one I got just doesn’t wanna load some games at all. The 32GB Transcend class 10 has not given me any problems so far. Except that I can’t play games bigger than 4GB. I’m a certified IT Specialist, I should’ve foreseen that FAT32 formatted cards would balk at big AAA Wii games. Maybe it is for the better if I won’t be playing Metroid Prime Corruption. I do wanna check out Fragile Dreams though. And maybe Another Code. Guess I gotta do a whole lot of copying and re-formatting to NTFS.

Emulator experiences: Snes9x GX actually plays all those Mode 7 racing games (and Ace wo Nerae!) that the PSP just couldn’t handle at all. Though the framerate still seems a bit shitty sometimes. Then again, that might also be the case on original hardware. FCE Ultra GX also seems to work fine. Music sounded weirdly out of synch on PSP, not so here. (And oh, Fire Emblem Gaiden is kinda like Sacred Stones.) And of course the Wiimote is just a perfect fit. PC Engine emulation is kind of messy though. Hugo is good for HuCards, but has no sound for CD games. Wiiengine does CD games, but has the worst GUI I’ve ever seen, and also no low-res 240p-ish mode. At least there’s some stuff like Ys and Rondo on VC. Thankfully, Genesis Plus GX works fine, CDs and all. Maybe I’ll try MSX next.

Only caused by a few Namco games if I’m remembering right. So you just need one if you want the Mr Driller game (you do) and the Donkey Konga JP versions and maybe Druaga and …

So you can get a low capacity one at least.

Kururin Squash!

Isn’t GC Druaga just the NES game?

I got an 8MB card. It is blue instead of black, like it appeared on ebay. I doesn’t get recognized by some games. Yeah me.

Kururuin Squash is great but it’s not by Namco~ and I’m pretty sure I ran it on the same card as a bunch of my other saves just fine.

Whoops, guess I mixed up the GC Druaga wit hthe PS2 one.

use retroarch instead of Snes9x GX - fullspeed on i believe every game in the snes library. you might have tiny troubles with, like, SMW2:YI, Star Fox 2, or Kirby’s Dream Land 3, but probably not

you actually should use retroarch for everything except for n64 and psx (which you shouldn’t bother with) and maybe genesis if you want all the nice features (the core is identical, but Genesis Plus GX has additional features and is snazzier)

the amount of emulators you need that aren’t retroarch is like…3?

bluemsx wii is one of them

What’s the state of Wii U Homebrew? I haven’t been following it at all.

That Gamecube Nintendont thing says it works on Wii U so I’m guessing it’s been blown open?

You should be able to play both Sin & Punishment games now. I higly recommend those.

So I was still looking for a nice PCE CD / Turbo Duo emulator to complete my collection of emulators, here’s what happened:

I tried RetroArch and it’s ugly and has way too many options I don’t care about in its ugly menu. Also, it doesn’t even recognize my Wiimote, probably because I also have a GameCube controller plugged in. I’m not gonna unplug and replug my GameCube controller, that’s just silly.

But thank god there is also WiiMednafen 0.2 Pre, which is totally out of date and uncool I guess, but it also has a much nicer font, only the options I need, and does a really good job of playing PCE CD games. Enjoying some Blood Gear (which is rad) and Auleria (which is bad) over here, not gonna complain.

Not64’s N64 emulation also works really well. For a couple games. Okay maybe a handful. Like Rally Challenge 2000, and Big Mountain 2000, and Fighter’s Destiny, and Aero Gauge, and Star Soldier Vanishing Earth, and some other stuff nobody but me gives a fuck about I suppose.

In other news: formatting my 64GB microSD to NTFS was a very bad idea, because the homebrew channel doesn’t really support NTFS. Oh well, there’s this tool called WiiBackupManager that automatically splits games bigger than 4GB when copying over to a FAT32 partition, problem solved, real tempted to play those Xeno Chronicles now (not really).

News never stop: Wiimote as gun in Snatcher works like a charm. I play with the classic controller and have my Wiimote sitting in my (sweat pants) pocket, ready to be pulled out. Feel like a true badass.

Oh you should get F-zero X and GX. GX is amazing and secretly in widescreen.

Wii A Boy and his Blob or “naw”?

Holy Shit did not know this

It’s charming and fun but makes the mistake of chopping the seamless world into discrete “levels.” Also, the hint signs get obnoxious.
