Is it still worth grinding for the Recluse (for pve) or is the nerf going to smush it enough to just run with another smg instead
The grind to get Recluse is trivially easy if you just stick to playing Freelance Survival. It might take a while, but you gain far more points on win than you lose when you lose, until you hit fabled. I’d recc it just for completion reasons, but it’s a solid SMG through and through regardless, and a nerf probably won’t change that much.
Been stuck bouncing between 800 and 900 points all weekend+ so I’m just going to scowl pretty hard at this tbh

It’s definitely rough if you aren’t used to playing Crucible by yourself. There’s a lot to learn about how to play at a high-level. But, unfortunately, trying to buddy up with someone who is already past it (like me, I’m at 4688 or something) means your games will be MUCH harder than freelancing.
Hence my caveat:
Stick with it. Try to learn. And, most importantly: if you start to feel tilted, stop. If you’re frustrated and angry, you’re only going to play worse, and you’ll compound one loss into a loss streak. One of my buddies has the rule “if I lose twice in a row, I take a break”, and while I don’t follow it personally, the sentiment is good advice.
Also, most classes have a cheese build that can carry you through low-ranked comp. Some cheesy builds include:
- Warlock: Contraverse Hold, 100 Discipline, Nova Warp. You get constant Supernovas since your grenade never runs out, which can delete anyone at point blank range
- Titan: Thunder Coil, Striker. Become the one-punch man. Pair with Synthoceps or Insurmountable Skullfort to be truly rude
- Hunter: Wormhusk Crown. Everyone will hate you but your survivability will jump through the roof
Some cheesy weapons that make people mad bc they are easy to use are: Telesto, Jotunn, Lord of Wolves, Last Word, Ace of Spades
Yeah, something like 80 or 120. If you’re having trouble advancing, try only playing 3 matches a week and gaining glory this way instead.
This is absolutely what I’ve done so far, without it I’d not have broken out of first rank even probably
My guns are the Iron Banner pulse rifle and a Smuggler handgun fwiw, I only ever gets gun kills with the former I’m pretty sure
I’d definitely recommend against double primaries unless you’re ~really~ good with your second primary. Every special weapon in the game can one-shot in Crucible under the right circumstances, so committing to one and learning it is a good idea.
Each one sorta fits a particular playstyle too!
- Shotguns are for rushing down other players, blind suicidal aggression, because it’s all about getting the first shot off
- Fusion Rifles are perfect for baiting players - especially shotgunners - because you can use radar to make them commit to a bad engagement, charge your fusion, and VORPPPP them before they can get you
- Sniper Rifles are god-tier for laning. I hate them because I am bad at them.
- Grenade Launchers are good follow-up tools, since the delayed detonation mechanic allows you to hit enemies behind cover. Hard to use but rewarding to master
- Trace Rifles are whatever. I don’t use them ever but they are suitable “eh, whatever” special weapons. Requires good aim to use right.

Ugh this is still within reach for me (almost done with the ritual weapons) and yet I don’t know if I want to do it.
(I still like the game, just considering tapping out of the title game now that they’re time-limited. I want Reckoner more.)
