super metroid isn’t a metroidvania it’s just a metroid
but yes i agree it’s the best of those

it rules with 3-4 people who arent drunk… there’s cup holders built into every machine ive see though so its likely to turn into yelling and machine slamming chaos. DONT SLAM THE MACHINES
also any game that lets you throw shit on the screen when you’re not actively playing gets like 40 extra points from me
please tell me why you don’t like super metroid because i just finished it and i want someone to tear it apart with. i mean, i liked it a lot, but i’m really curious about why it works for me and so many other people while sort of having these traits i would normally be like “yuck”
samus’s breathing animation when she stands still makes the game for me. oh shes breathing heavy, shit is stressful!
i wish all the doors were unlocked though, like let me make a stupid choice, go the wrong way and get obliterated! thats MY RIGHT
I like that the doors are locked because it lets you know This Is Some Place You’ve Never Been
But also yeah the game is definitely a theme park!!! Lots of barriers that you can’t cross until you’re This Tall
they could have a seal over them that says theyre unopened, but you don’t need some special weapon to open it, just to break the seal
i also cant stop thinking about what you said about being able to get hit 388373 times. so now im imagining all the games i would actually play if i could take a super metroid amount of hits
i almost wrote Metroid(vania) like that because i agree. i hate that word but it’s the one everyone uses
Proto-Castlevania with Metroid elements.
every “metroidvania” is a metroid clone with RPG numbers, including SOTN
SOTN is a metroid clone with RPG elements
every metroid clone without RPG elements is just a metroid clone. they very rarely have anything castlevania-esque to them, and the only thing “castlevania-esque” about these games is that they have damage numbers and stats that Go Up
which as a fan solely of the classicvania games is BLASPHEMY
portrait of ruin is still my favorite cluttervania
Totally agree. I was being sarcastic with that previous post.
oh I know I’m not arguing with anybody or anything I’m just shouting into the thread
I’m not a super fan of Super Metroid, and only because jumping feels bad
Don’t think there are a lot of other vidcon jumps with such high vertical and low horizontal movement and that’s for a good reason IMO
OH dang I love the jump in Super Metroid. It really fits Very Vertical way the world is assembled.
This actually might be why I don’t like a lot of other metroid-esque games! I really hate the short hop associated with platforming in lots of these games. Gimme this big spacey jump that lets me go practically twice the screen height
I want to hit the jump button at most once every 3 seconds!!
It’s hard for me to defend super metroid to a greater extent than “The music, controls, and graphics, create an atmosphere is perfect for being trapped alone on a dying planet filled with weird ruins trying to save your jellyfish child from the bad brain lady”. Like it’s such an aesthetic piece, and everything works towards that aesthetic.
I can get not liking it, but at the same time it does what it does so well, and I’m not sure why ‘Isn’t the same kind good game as the two other also good games in the series’ is bad. I like that the first three Metroid games are their own thing, and I like that all three exist.
yeah the jump in super metroid is so floaty, the wooshwooshwoosh sound effect for spinning will now be stuck in my head for three days
metroid FUSION though, now that’s some bullshit lead footed nonsense
