I can't believe today was a good play (Games you played today)

I wish this were possible. I love power suits and I spent HOURS painting them in the beta but every time the game wanted me to actually play it I just got sad

I’m still early on so I haven’t hit the endless grind aspect of every AAA game these days, but:

The core loop feels like endgame Control. You’re constantly taking flight, hovering around, using abilities, and shooting your gun. After a mission or two, the controls felt really intuitive. I’m also using the huge tank mech with no shields, and I never get tired of plummeting out of the sky and slamming into the ground with my huge robot body.

Has the BioWare RPG element of “looking directly at somebody’s face while they narrate at me” which is fine. Feels a little weird but not egregiously so.

There are dialogue choices which can give you free boosts to faction rep. Those choices also reflect the faction ideology well; for example, a choice that emphasizes “home” will improve Sentinel rep, where a choice that emphasizes “restless adventure” will improve Freelancer rep. It’s a nice touch to characterize people both on a personal level and also contextualize them within the game’s world.

The art design is pretty wild, as is the concept. It’s like, what if Monster Hunter/FF14, but instead of learning magic or nature, humans just built mech suits to punch monsters in the face. Really cool style, and I love the look of my mech a lot.

I figure I’ll probably fall off when the game stops being a third-person shooter and starts being a number-go-up RPG, but for now it’s a nice diversion and there’s still some novelty. I can definitely see the seams of AAA meddling though.

Got it in the Origin Basic Access pass, since I wanted to play a few games but didn’t want to own them.

Maybe it’s just my chosen class but it’s real easy and fluid for me to do stuff in the game, so I’m enjoying it a lot as a shooter.

Ultimately I think this really isn’t that great so, here’s hoping I can get a Steam refund.

I wish more people played Color Splash because say what you will about the card battle system but to me the writing and world design was up there with Thousand Year Old Door. I really loved it. It didn’t hurt that it’s absolutely gorgeous too!

I just finished reading this book, and I enjoyed it. I’d already had it as part of that Humble Bundle collection a while back, but the only other title in the series I’d read was the ZZT one.

Most of the games discussed in the book I’d heard of, but I didn’t realize that they all came from the same source.

…I had that game as a kid

good job Joshua

SMRPG has what I referred to as Donkey Kong Country Graphics. Which makes it superior to just about everything.

Ninja Saviors: Return of the Warriors/Ninja Warriors Once Again/Savior Ninja Warriors: Return of the Mack is so good. I know people already knew this, but now I know this.

Obviously I’m playing a bunch of random stuff to see what grabs me so pardon me for posting so much ITT

Cursed Castilla (Maldita Castilla) is fucking tough for me. I was never any good at the Ghosts ‘n’ Goblins games and so I suffer similarly here. I would like to press on a bit and see if I can make some real progress though.

It’s pretty managable. Don’t worry about the death/continue thing that is only for “true ending” which is code for “if you really like the game and want to wallow in it for a while.”

I want to Warehouse Kawasaki for maybe the final time. I played Space Harrier and Outrun and Pacman Battle Royale with @dylan and @Sakurina. That game is almost fun with 3 people.

And then I lost 25 minutes of my life to House of the Dead EX. The love compatibility one that is a minigame collection with a step button.

Warehouse was busier than I had ever seen it. I guess folks were coming out for the end.

Was going to a hotel in the mountains this weekend that had a pretty good looking game corner but had to cancel.

I got Hollow Knight, it seems good? Coming down off the Super Metroid high so being very critical of it but I like hitting things with my nail. Bam bam bam

I don’t like it, but I like it more than Super Metroid!

that take should be accompanied by the little flourish the boss fight music does when it loops

Indeed

I find myself playing Super Metroid every 5 years and getting more upset with it each time, I’m going to build a mountain out of these grudges one day

make sure you put little gems in each of the grudges’ eyes

Super Metroid is probably the best Metroidvania, but Hollow Knight is my favorite. it has a slow start but around the second area it starts getting really good.
