I can't believe today was a good play (Games you played today)

Ecto Cooler only ever worked as a thing because Coca-Cola were assholes and owned Columbia Pictures throughout the 80s before finally selling to Sony, whose ownership of the library is honestly equally as cynical but in a more insidious way

Ghostbusters 2 happened for much of the same reason (the newly hired CEO wanted to push prestige films but then they weren’t making money so)

it was a pitchfork/kill screen collaboration and it seems to have been taken offline

i remember asking him about it a couple years back and i can’t remember what he said but i CAN remember never playing it again so i think what he said had something to do with that

Iread a book about a game, here’s what I said on Facebook

Finished reading BIBLE ADVENTURES, a book all about Wisdom Tree, an infamous company who released unlicensed Christian games on the NES/SNES.

It’s a well-researched book, with lots of input from the people involved, detailing the story of how a bunch of atheists and agnostics who hung out in strip clubs ended up making Christian games, and how a game based on the brutal 80s horror movie Hellraiser ended up becoming about Noah’s Ark.

I found it to be a fascinating read, and enjoyed the author talking about his own relationship with Christianity (he found the game Bible Adventures through his church). There was LOTS of information here that I didn’t already know, as the author treated the subject seriously rather than as a joke, as most YouTubers and game journos have done.

I had a few problems with it. The author’s use of language could sometimes be callous, and occasionally he tries to come off as cool but ends up cringey, but those moments were rare. It also references games discourse popular at the time which has aged very badly, but again, it’s not a large part of the book.

Overall, if you have any interest in the topic, I’d recommend giving it a read.

Does Oh Deer actually exist in some playable form or are there other Outrun clones that use roadkill as a score mechanic?

If you have a Humble Bundle account, a “beta” of the PC version is in the Trove there, but I don’t think it was ever actually for sale.

Several months ago I subscribed to the Humble Bundle Monthly thing briefly, and it was one of the free exclusive games that’s always available to subscribers, I think.

Update: found out that this studio is made up of former “HuniePop” devs so the atrocious writing suddenly makes more sense

It was available on the Vita right before the PS Minis store (or related branding I’m getting confused) closed up. Handheld is very good to it. Presumably you can still find it in the backchannel Vita scene, or I can get you the files.

ps mobile was the thing that closed down, like a month before i got a vita. rassum frassum

One Night Stand is a pretty good replayable 10 minutes VN (that just got a console/switch release)

I loved the « good »ending and how to get to it

You have to go against your gamer instincts and not be a nosy creep, just be someone who’s chill about forgetting the girl’s name instead of checking her wallet for her ID card

I couldn’t find the ending on my own so I’m a fuckup

I also like how you can just decide to not like the girl and get out immediately

Creepy Castle sorta rules. The combat has a bit of Undertale in its DNA, and the so does the general vibe but is definitely its own game. The music is similarly phenomenal, though!

Logged into my Destiny 1 Hunter and warmed up by playing some The Dark Below story missions and The Nexus. Decided to go check out the Plaguelands patrol again and ran into 2 randos running Archon’s Forge so I decided to join them for a while. GENESIS CHAIN~ still shreds in 2019. I love this game.

You can acquire and then play PS Mobile games this way?

actually checking and not just spouting bullshit confirms that, probably yes

Decided to install Amnesia: The Dark Descent, which I had let sit in my library for several years without playing it.

Tried it for about an hour without running into a single enemy, but it kept giving me screen hints like, “Try to avoid enemies by staying in the dark!” That honestly scared me way more than the environmental details. It tried to spook me in really obvious ways. I thought the piano opening and playing was cute. Dragging stuff around with the mouse is mildly annoying.

The water ghost yanked me out of the experience, probably because everybody had already talked about the refinery segment, and I knew it was coming. When it started splashing towards me, I just stood still to see what would happen, which I guess was my mistake, because I wholly expected the game’s mechanics to unveil the horror experience. Amnesia evidently wants me to run away, so I stubbornly refused. I might have taken a different approach at a younger age (I initially got this game via Humble Bundle in 200X), when I would be stuck in a single room for several minutes in Silent Hill because I was too afraid to leave and see what was outside.

Anyway, I put the game down after that. Seems to be good for another sitting later.

Edit: Just uninstalled it because I can’t see myself having fun for the short amount of game that’s left.
