I can't believe today was a good play (Games you played today)

wow, i agree that the original has some kind of unique quality to it but the remake version of that song is absolutely beautiful!

it sounds like a radiohead song lol

They definitely should’ve IMO. That, or they should’ve gone further and abandoned matching the world map tile-by-tile – like Link Between Worlds relates to LttP. This precise faithfulness to some details and total dismissal of others is like a videogame analogue to “literal” translations of poetry.

I had great difficulty figuring out the path to the southeast side of the map yesterday, and I never had any trouble with that in the original.

i couldnt sleep last night so i ive been playing gotta protectors for 16 hours. Im finally on chapter 5, went with Archer this time and been relying heavily on turrets. Map 86 is a doozy.
does anybody know how making rings works?

Well I recorded a failed podcast so I will put this thought here before it completely slips my mind: I gave up on State of Mind. Eventually you have to go to a cyberpunk nightclub to meet up with the resistence (of course.)

They trust you immediately and then get killed when police robots show up. First the police robots are in line then there are people throwing molotov cocktails in the club? And then a shot of a person on the ground while 3 robots beat them with battons? And then the robots start shooting people too? And I went “why the hell would police robots commit police brutality?”

I decided this game was not going to say anything about anything and in my own head on the train I am a better and more considerate story teller.

I’d completely forgotten how to get to the animal village and it took me forever to find the stairs under the bush. Without the screen divisions, the bush was no longer center screen, so didn’t stand out so much as something to idly slash away at to reveal the way forward.

It’s also kinda weird when you get to Mamu’s little grove and you can see that both the first and third dungeons are practically right next to each other.

I started playing Psychonauts yesterday because why not.

The game stopped recognizing my save tonight.

Apparently this has been a known issue for a long time. Either Double Fine or whoever was in charge of the PC version apparently isn’t the best at bug handling.

Anyways I created a new profile, overwrote the save there with the original one and the game started recognizing it again. Am now backing it up every time I stop playing, also found a site that has a bunch of saves from all throughout as again this is a known issue.

Oh yeah, the game itself is pretty okay! At this point I am unsure if it is just getting buy on personality or if there is something mechanically strong underneath it all, but regardless said personality is very strong at this point.

Probably it was easier for me because I played the game without prior experience of the “tile division”, but I had no problem in finding the stairs under the bush. While I do understand your point (bush being in the center of the screen in the DX version), I expect to have to slash all bushes in SNES era Zelda games (I played link to the past 20 years ago)… It’s parallel to look for secret passages in a Castlevania game.

I’ve been playing the resident evil 2 remake and it feels real good. I don’t have much else to say, because “what if they made RE2 like RE4 only scary and with the overarching design principles of the original RE2” really does just about cover it.

Played Warframe, which I do around as often as days end in “y.”

Played public matches which is a rarity for me.

Semi-AFK’d the Orb Vallis bounties which is… IDK. I’d feel worse about it if not AFK’ing would have actually mattered in any meaningful way. I mean, there’s a couple missions there (the capture-the-crates mission, any crate hunt in an interior space, defending excavators and keeping them powered) where just having another body matters, but generally for Tiers 2-5 I just spent most of my time sitting on top of the building that serves as your spawn point into the Vallis playing with the Shawzin as my teamates, including one person who in all four T2-T5 bounty runs, handled most of the shooting and killing.

Like, one of the missions was “Kill 25 enemies in 7 minutes, and under 4 minutes for a bonus.” 25 enemies, for 4 players. There’s little need to contribute at all since the teammates could each kill 25 enemies in about 4 seconds apiece.

It’s like playing Left4Dead, but each player has the ability to annihilate all enemies in their vicinity nearly instantaneously while doing so with the staccato pace of a machine gun.

My brain is fuzzy, maybe I’ll have a more coherent point to make tomorrow.

enjoying blasphemous. I really like it, I appreciate how “middleweight” movement and combat is, not castlevania heavy, but not like acrobatic platformer lightweight either.

I’m tired of everything being soulslike but I appreciate the “accumulation of guilt upon successive deaths” dovetailing very effectively with all the catholic themed stuff happening.

Yeah I’m nearly done with it and wish there was a lot more to go really, it’s basically calibrated perfectly to how much effort I want to put into an action game in 2019

Also holy fucking shit a mapquest game that never awards you a double jump upgrade what in the very world

I believe salt & sanctuary also did not have a double jump

This orchestration of the 6th dungeon music is spectacular though

EDIT: Ah, I didn’t notice Grandpa just posted about it above. Well, I like the new one personally.

this is great, fuck

While we’re on the subject of perhaps misguided faithfulness, I find it very funny that they left the Guardian Acorn/Power Piece music note-for-note to make absolutely sure that I would continue to never pick one up for fear of destroying the music
