GNOG is cute, and short, and maybe the controls aren’t totally optimized for a non-touch interface? No matter, precision isn’t required although sometimes struggling with the controls to get them to do what you want dulls a little of the magic.

unfortunately they’re tricky in VR, too, but looking at those little precision lunchbox worlds is delightful when it’s 2" from your eyes
As much as Souls titles I’m reminded of Demon’s Crest too, which I guess isn’t completely unreasonable
It also falls short of its obvious inspiration Windosill in weirdness and lateral thinking but kind of makes up for it with production value I guess?

I downloaded the SNESSufami Switch app and booted Rushing Beat Ran
this is the most jank-ass fucking Jaleco jank belt scroller I have played (somehow even more jank than 64th Street, a game where you punch breakdancers, punks and robots in 1930s America) and I love it
the game is so jank that you have to deploy your own jank measures in retaliation, as only jank can defeat jank (it’s the kind of beat em up where walking at an enemy for a grab is like putting your fate in God’s hands). Wendy, the cool lady wrestling character, can do a running drop kick that she can follow up with a grab (sure, why not) and can OTG even though it also knocks down? just run at a dude and drop kick him and instantly turn around and suplex him and drop kick the air above him and knock him back down again
even the music doesn’t give a fuck and sounds like some super Jaleco jams
I want to marry this game and enshrine all of its flaws

There was some mention of FFX’s terribleness here somewhere and it reminded me that I’d bought the remaster on steam.
I remembered quite liking the game at the time, and although I didn’t finish it, I had gotten to the “go around and do all the other shit before the big final boss” part.
Anyway, I fired it up last night and welp, y’all are right. Game sucks. I do like the battle system but damn everything else is just…ugh.
Gonna play… something else tonight.

@BustedAstromech I can’t truly say it’s a better game but if you want to grief fans of Ori tell them to play Seasons After Fall and make them doubt their choice in artsy-fartsy platformers. It’s very pretty and quite a bit more relaxing.
Shortly afterward, Oka gave me scarf of repel missile and I found the penetrating longbow artifact in an ice cave. The Armour of the Dragon King is for sale, but my current armor has rN++ and MR+++ so it’s not obvious which is better.
I’ma end this game so embarrassingly.
