The other day I wound up watching all of the cutscenes from Mortal Kombat 11 story mode stitched together to make a movie and like, it was sorta good? I mean, as someone who has never given a shit about that series’ canon I found myself surprisingly invested.

yeah I think people got sick of me posting about it when it came out but it was a supremely enthusiastic use of the source material especially if the last mortal kombat you played was 2

felt like replaying exile on the genesis. it’s like zelda 2, except the main character is a drug addicted syrian assassin who travels the world and through time to murder various religious and political figures because ???
in this one, he teams up with the head of the knights templar, fights the crusade, resurrects the prophet mani, kills a bunch of hindu deities, joins a japanese sex cult, then travels back in time to meet pythagoras, who is also a member of the sex cult, then fights the head of the knights templar in the garden of eden. it is completely off the rails, and the english localisation can be charitably described as “incoherent,” so the whole thing feels like a 3-4 hour fever dream.
edit: this is the sequel to a game where ronald reagan is the final boss

The XZR games are cool because it has drugs as items. Like hashish. I translated the item list years ago, but lost it.

When finding your fastest lap you have to find the land marks for each corner where you have start braking. Pick an early/easy one and then work on going later and alter until you just cant slow down in time then go back one. I’m pretty good at saying okay, 3 beats past the tree and being consistent but I don’t know why that works.
Also as a general rule you want to minimize inputs. To use a weeb analogy you’re trying to be like a samurai, unsheathing and killing in a single stroke. The path around the track that allows the least turning, least changes in acceleration and braking is generally the fastest and smoothest. So ask yourself, can I get through this section while doing less? If the answer is yes you likely have time you can pick up there.
I’ve had Exile on my sega lsit for a bit didnt know it was that interesting. Ill have to pick it up sooner than later.
I’ve been playing a lot of Link To The Past on my phone and its been more interesting than I expected.
ALTTP is a game I’ve started maybe 8 times but never completed and I was just plain burned out on it but there is something about playing the game on the Phone that is just… different. I see games differently when I emulate them, I see them differently on the original consoles vs a port and I see games differently as I progress through my life. And for some reason something is clicking right now and Im willing to break out of my old patterns, slow down and really take the game in. I didn’t really mean to start playing it I just downloaded a bunch of new games for a trip and decided to check them all out and this one is sticking to me.
I am really excited to experiment with the tactical applications of bees. I just learned about the golden bee and man… this game has some STUFF in it.

Slay the Spire just started their beta for the new 4th character. It’s free and open to anyone who owns the game! I just played act 1 with it and I’m still getting a grip on it. She’s a monk lady who can play cards to switch fighting stances, and there are a lot of buffs that play on that mechanic. Seems cool!

Breath of Fire 1 is not the worst RPG but it might be the most generic, mediocre one. What a slog. Not hard to see why Capcom is giving it away for free while Squarenix is selling all their 20 years old RPGs for like 20$ each

Yeah, 1 is extreeeeeemely rote. It’s a weird start for a series that would be very ambitious and ahead of its time with the anti-church themes in 2 (though with an awful translation), then a really damn good 3 and later finishing off with the super unique Dragon Quarter.
breath of fire 1 has some memorable aspects imo. but it is certainly not very fun to play.
the breath of fire series is interesting because every game in the series is very drastically different in terms of tone, visual style, mechanics… which I guess is true about final fantasy as well but breath of fire is consistently weirder and darker.

it’s also consistently cheaper and more generic while still redefining itself as frequently which is fascinating specifically within those boundaries
