I can't believe today was a good play (Games you played today)

hi I’m just going to continue to shitpost because I’ve got noting else going on ATM and I got bits floating around in my brain

I’m just going to tell all of you that if you played the Panzer Bandit and liked it that you should go play Phantom Breaker Battlegrounds, which is literally 99% the same game from the same game designer as Panzer Bandit except now it’s finished but also it looks like late 2000s-era Akihabara vomited all over the character design and Nana Mizuki voices the main character for some reason

also the PBBG Overdrive soundtrack has the best fucking sounding FM-sample clap I have ever heard but I don’t think that counts because it’s not running off an FM chip

it’s a damn shame the next-to-last level is a maze (the last time I did that level on the hardest difficulty, it took 40 minutes. do you know how many times I can fuck up trying to 1CC Violent Storm in 40 minutes? fuck man, my last clear of Ninja Warriors Once Again was 40 minutes)

all this panzer bandit talk makes me think i should re-play it. i haven’t played it in many years, and the last time i did, i hadn’t yet played any of the asuka 120% games, and i’m theorising that there’s going to be some common ground between how the two play and feel.

i finally figured out the secret to super robot wars x: the few big guys like mazinger, gurren lagann, and so on, are far more important to your ability to win battles than the rest of your army put together. this is my first srw game, so i don’t know if this is the same across the series

finally have my own 3ds i can finally stop using other peoples aaaa

I haven’t had much time for games lately and what time I have had goes into stardew valley for some reason but I completed the community center on day 1 of year 2 so that’s nice

The Gardens Between is cute, and brief. Its puzzles aren’t challenging but they are very (very) dependent on you keeping your eyes peeled. Much that looks like it might be set dressing turns out to be key to puzzles. The last one made me groan.

edit: One sorta nice touch – upon completing the game it presents you with new menu options for finding the devs on social media and to listen to the soundtrack. Selecting the bandcamp page just popped open a new tab in my browser. Hey, PC gaming, you’re alright sometimes.

I’m really enjoying in Steambirds Alliance lately grinding planes to level cap. At this stage (thanks to transferring over drops I picked up with high-level planes) it takes me about 10 minutes to do so. Then I raid with it until it explodes (usually after 1-2 hours), losing the plane levels and inventory but putting XP into my global level (actually dying is the only way to increase your global level, so it feels like part of the cycle of life rather than a huge loss). I love how this game distilled aspects of the MMO+roguelike formula into a much shorter and more lively loop.

can’t get over how good the shypox dialogues are that I refuse to turn them off even though they keep getting me killed

Blasting through diablo 3 as a necromancer was too much fun y’all. Constantly killing then resurrecting oncoming hordes the moment they perish and then turning them back on the enemy just never got old.

Also the missus loved my skeleton posse (“Oh cute! You have a little ska band following you around!”)

So the SNES Switch thing is out, and my wife is freaking out to Super Mario World, which she spent a summer playing basically every night when she was 13, and it is cracking me up.

i played through mgs5 again the past few weeks
at some point since launch they added ‘challenge tasks’ that will give you high end recruits and other bonuses for everything from s-ranking missions to listening to tapes, makes the whole thing a lot breezier and i felt like i had access to most of the fun toys very early

Holds a special place in my heart as the last game my older sister really took seriously. We rented it from Blockbuster and spent an entire weekend besting each others time trials records.

Natsuge is closing and they have STAR FEVER. Which I cannot find video of. The screen says Konami 1983.

STAR FEVER is one of those games where you are playing on the mirror surface so they have a physical background. If is kind a galaga but you can move forward(accelrate) and backwards (brake). You shoot beautiful deadly plentiful red lasers. It looks incredible. I need to go back and put some more time into it before I never see it again.
