I can't believe today was a good play (Games you played today)

I’m sorry you felt compelled to read that story first, its truly one of HPL’s worst

this enemy design sounds a LOT like shadow warrior which loved cheap kills and enemy behavior

there were multiple times while I was playing it last night where I said “what the fuck killed me?”

This is a good write-up of it: https://www.tor.com/2015/03/03/lovecrafts-most-bigoted-story-no-really-the-horror-at-red-hook/

For a game I have definitely played 6 times through loading up Silent Hill 2 in PCSX2 with a CRT filter and immediately forming a ball of dread rules so hard. Great game.

Surely some modern horror game (VR?) has met this experience…surely?

I haven’t played them, but RE7 and Alien Isolation both have VR modes. I think Alien’s implementation is pretty basic. But the game seems to be effective enough in standard mode, that simply viewing it via headset and head movement, should be great.

i’ve only played a few chapters but i think you kinda nailed it. i don’t mind the waves of enemy spawns, really, i like the idea of multiple encounters in the same space. the problem is just that the enemies are universally terrible to interact with. i bet you could learn a lot from how bad this game fucks up enemy design… games of the vintage ion fury is built on have this codified so i’m surprised. human enemies aren’t differentiated enough from each other to be recognizable and everything else is just obnoxiously small and pointless to try and deal with without the pistol lock-on. the pistol lock on is fuckin great, the pistol is great. the shotgun’s spread is just too tight and ends up being useless for anything you’d want a shotgun for. the SMGs are good. the level layouts annoy me for reasons i have yet to find words for. ego portrait good. playing a cop sucks.

my biggest issue is the messy audio design. quality honestly too crisp and overproduced, it’s aesthetically dissonant and legit gives me headaches. somebody get this SFX guy a saturator or a bitcrusher please. since enemy audio cues don’t have enough panning or directionality applied to them to be useful i just turn the sound off when i play this

so yeah i’m having a good time. FAN OUT

I’m mashing buttons a lot in marvel ultimate alliance 3. It doesn’t do a great job explaining how to match special attacks to create combos. Also, fuck that second boss fight with the mounted guns.

I have finally put Hollow Knight to bed. Decided not to go nuts chasing down all the side quests and stuff so as to not burn myself out on its whole thing before the sequel arrives.

I’m not returning to Thumper. It’s less than I thought it would be. I’m not sure if that makes sense to anyone else, but. Would probably make a damn cool arcade game in an alternate universe.

Blazing Chrome is an extremely fun and faithful Contra Hard Corps feeling game, felt like a labor of love in the right way. Challenging but absolutely doable on Normal difficulty thanks to unlimited continues. The ending credits theme put a huge grin on my face. Highly recommended if you love Contra or just dig one hit and quit shooters.

bov was right, fatal bullet is literally just freedom wars. this rules, in spite of the sword art online shell

note that the same applies to the show it was selling, SAO Alternative GGO, which is the dumb but awesome straight-to-video action movie part of the SAO shitpile

i got a cheap copy of kirby star allies so i’ve played thru that while couch surfing for the last week and a half. its ok, actually, tho it looks p generic. there’s a handful of good setpieces across the main story, which is good enough ig, particularly in worlds 2 and 3. and there’s an unlockable bonus mode (i think it was dlc) that’s essentially a series of puzzle rooms to test individual characters’ moveset properties. they’re not really puzzles, i guess, because they set you up with the characters you need, but then they set you a task the solution to which exploits a quirky aspect of a given character’s moveset in ways that are absolutely not engaged anywhere else in the game, like “did you know character x’s down+b freezes stuff”, or “did you know electrified characters behave like this”. it’s really satisfying honestly, and the whole mode is bonkers ugly, like it takes place entirely on the surface of the sun

oh i already know and love ggo

i felt like streaming some lollipop chainsaw earlier. and i kind of forgot how like, funny the game is? it’s very much in the vein of being edgy and prominently features the writing of a pre-guardians of the galaxy james gunn, but it’s still good?

One of the details about this game that cracks me up is Tara Strong pretty much used this voice again for twilight sparkle in MLP.

Ys Celceta’s story stuff is real stupid and boring and I keep thinking about how I should play the other Ys games that I like instead.

Whenever it shuts up and just lets me get lost in a dungeon or a forest then I have a lot of fun and start checking if Ys9 (ysix (y6)) is available or if ys8 is on sale.

If the third town repeats how brain-dead the first two towns are I will probably quit. (It will almost certainly do that and I will public explain how thoughtless it is further proving video games are not art.)

ys 8 isnt that much better tbh, but it seems easier to solo if you’re like me and hate the party system
