All the name Balbanes Beoulve brings to my mind is the old IC/SB poster who had good taste in tactical RPGs.
I hadn’t realized that it was a FFT reference, even though I played FFT long ago.

i was too embarrassed to post this, but yes me too me too
privateer is still kicking my ass and i wish i had any clue what i was doing and not just trying whatever i can think of
maybe its time to move on!
im enjoying myself sometimes tho…it’s just really obtuse to figure out what to do next. if i could figure out a reliable way to make money i would be fine. i haven’t even found the plot yet lmao
“lost the plot” < “have yet to find the plot”
should i just make a Space Sim thread
We sort of had one? Maybe? We had a space sim talk and I thought daphny split it out somewhere, maybe I’m hallucinating
post
just post
i have not split space sim discussion that must have been pre-daphny era
but yeah go for it if youve got stuff to post about post it! make a thread! do it! write all the words, maybe even include pictures, who knows?? the forum is your oyster
I’ve never bought a reproduction controller in my life because they’ve always seemed like a worse deal than getting a USB dongle but I took a chance on the 8bitdo SNES dualshock looking thing because I was impressed that they reverse engineered the switch Bluetooth and I really like it.
Everybody I know who’s gotten one of the 8bitdos really likes them. I’d get one except my house is basically overflowing with weird controllers that I’ve picked up over the years and I can’t really justify getting even more.
I want one too (specifically the one with Game Boy colours).
Yeah all the 8bitdo controllers I’ve tried have been pretty surprisingly solid.
mine basically is too but hey
I’d heard mixed things about some of their other products but this one seemed like a fair amount of design effort had gone into it and $45 is actually reasonable
it’s surprisingly ergonomic for being so compact, the way they added L2/R2 actually feels really nice
Ion Fury is ruined by tiny skulls that fly, crawl or hang from ceilings, have unreasonably tricky hitboxes and are utterly miserable to deal with. I have no memory of these things existing in the demo and they can all go away because I hate them.
The rest of it is pretty good! Shotgun has crunch while dual Uzis feel like popcorn mixed with gunpowder. It’s probably too easy to get lost in the sprawling level design but just-about pulls it off.
I’m overall more negative on Ion Fury, but part of that is starting on hard difficulty
dozens of hitscan or nearly-hitscan enemies that teleport directly behind you, silently, any time you cross a new sector or touch a switch or pick up a key; completely lacking sound design for figuring out where the enemies are; the tiny skull enemies; a shotgun that feels like nothing despite its aesthetics, that can take up to 3 shots to put down a basic enemy at close range; the spritework on the human enemies is awful, they just blend into the background making it unnecessarily difficult to track them down while they pepper you with hitscan shots from who knows what direction.
Here’s whats great: the labyrinthine levels are gorgeous and fun to explore once 90% of the enemies are dead, the secrets are really really secret. The weapons aside from the shotgun genuinely feel great. The dual SMGs that set enemies on fire are so satisfying to use, the revolver with its target lock auto-aim mode feels great and remains effective throughout the first 3 chapters (up to what I played), the bowling bombs feel satisfying to use.
Anyway, hot tip for anyone thinking of playing Ion Fury, just play on easy mode, the enemy design is shit.
i bought a neo geo pocket, but i didnt know sonic pocket adventure wasn’t compatible so I may as well sell it!
Had not heard of it, but now I’ve read it. Thanks for the recommendation. I had to go back and read “The Horror at Red Hook” first, because it wasn’t one of the Lovecraft stories I remembered specifically even though I’d read it before.
