Got a 3DS Western Release (Untranslated??)
Today in Deus Ex… actually so far in Hong Kong nothing has broken horribly and everything seemed to mostly work as intended. That leaves the only “highlight” being the presence of a few problematic as hell accents for non-white characters, which based on my experience with Human Revolution just may be a series staple.
I also realized that if I pump up my super arm strength arm augs as high as they’ll go I can bust down many doors, locked cabinets and anything else that requires a key and isn’t marked as invincible. This is how I’m playing the game now.
Finished BDII Demo. Yeah, it was super easy. White mage can just cast protect on self, cast heal on party, and attack twice to gain back lost MP, all in one turn. It’s dissuaded me from playing the full game.
they did do one very weird thing with it: one of the wii samurai warriors games has a mode based on it
…and… This time i would like to bash on Killer 7. I love Suda51’s potential, The Silver Case is one of my favourite games ever, and I can’t wait to play its follow up.
I have been reading great things about Killer 7 (although also controversy about it, being defined, at times, “style over substance” ). I have been playing for some hours, I have seen the two japanese politicians, and also the latin american preacher… But the game is a bit boring to me. Should I endure? Until now, I cannot say that I am amazed by the “genius” of this game. It’s nice, but nothing that is wowing me. What do you guys think?
I think if it doesn’t click with you after the Ulmeyda (preacher) boss fight it might be a slog only worth it for seeing the context of Suda’s past work.
For what it’s worth I think the game gets progressively more interesting and has a lot to say about East-West relations, democracy and propaganda the further you get in. The sound design is best in class but the gameplay is more thematic than it is enjoyable.
It has some of that Silver Case dialogue that is fascinating to think over but they are very different vibes to me. Are you going with Flower, Sun and Rain or 25th Ward next?
Warriors Orochi 4 is friggin’ huge, holy shit.
Yeah if you aren’t loving the style and bulllshit the game is not for you. Like if Andre Ulmedia’s speech didn’t do it for you the game isn’t gonna work.
As someone that had to quit and almost broke a controller because of the misogyny, what did you like about The Silver Case?
This was what stuck me when I played it recently, and admirable that Suda would address these issues during a time in which no one else was doing that. Back before his games became a parody of his earlier games.
I met him at Momocon a few years ago and decided to ask him about Erik Satie instead of Travis Touchdown and I think he was genuinely surprised/relieved not to have to put on the clown mask for a fan for a brief moment. I still believe in Suda.
Amen.
Did a lot of Warframe Scarlet Spear last week, and got the two weapons and some arcanes i wanted to level 3 (for someone who never touched them before, it was nice to have) i think i have like, Energize, Aegis, pistol damage buff, magnetic defense.
to the event itself, while not much as gameplay (protect the things, go to another place, shoot) i did liked all that “everyone doing something to make numbers go up” kind of stuff, i think i liked the format of one side helping the other, yelling on chat we need more bottoms squads or tops squads.
And by doing a bunch of space top stuff, i did had a lot to upgrade my railjack thing, but i think i will wait for the next updated on on it though, i still didn’t managed to do the void tileset in railjack.
==================
Also i playing Rising Storm 2 and i was worried about everyone getting automatics and making every soldier feel the same when talking about the most used classes, but i was happy to be wrong!
the way they do it, was that the normal rifleman soldiers in the south side have way more mags for their M16s, so they can spray a lot more compared to the North who on their Ak-47 and brothers, they only have 3 mags, so the north have like the japanese in the first, be more aiming then shooting more, and i liked that.
one of my favorite gun in the North side, is the double barrel shotgun for the scout class. that thing feels like a mixture from Doom and Stalker shotguns for me, because you can use both buckshot or slug rounds, so you can change ammo as you go if you have the time, and even double shot for not tactical advantage, but it feels so good! also i love to out snipe some close snipers with that thing, of course the reload times are really long compared to everthing else, but maping the drop gun to one of my mouse buttons and getting my pistol ready way quicker then just swaping, so i have a fighting chance.
i still don’t khow what the fougasse trap does though or ever managed to shot down a chooper with a RPG.
For me, I saw this as the game showing its age but women never really were treated well in these games (NMH/Jeane comes to mind). I think what kept me going was its aesthetics and the noir plot and dialogue as well as wanting to see killer7’s predecessor.
I mean those other games didn’t have Sorry I was being a bitch I was on the rag. as a line.
Playing a lot of Sonic Robo Blast 2 Kart this week and despite its terrible name its been a blast. The game does not fuck around, it is not well balanced and the track desings hate you. But when you nail it you REALLY NAIL IT. It feels like a middle step between Mario Kart snes and Mario Kart 64 if it was on the Saturn.
My favorite element is the drift boost mechanics. You drift, you get sparks you boost. Unlike in a mario kart the boost allows you to radically alter your trajectory and actually turn way sharper at the moment of boost. So the winning tech in a 90 degree + corner is to come in too hot, bet it all on getting them sparks so you can pop a boost and fling yourself in the proper direction. The closer you do this to the inside the better your line. But if you touch a wall you bounce and lose half your momentum.
I could go on an on about how it all works and how neat all the little mechanics are.
Deception 4 is wearing on me poorly. I powered through to the 3rd area, a spooky carnival themepark. Im just not into it aesthetically at all. The trap combos are getting harder even as I get more traps due to increased enemy count and trap immunity by said enemies. I’m gonna let this rest and come back when it hopefully feels fresh.
Trail In The Sky is still pretty good but the extremely limited soundtrack is starting to bore into me.
Chapter 2:
I (temporarily?) lost my 2 favorite characters for story reasons and its bumming me out. In battle the tactical options arent expanding so I kinda have my routine down. This is hopefully just a soggy middle section before it picks up again.
all respect to suda ig but misogyny aside i just found TSC’s writing clunky and cringey, a lot of forced tough guy cop banter, though i was into the environments and weird controls. i love killer7 and it’s kind of amazing that he was able to make something as perfect as that game when imo he’s never really managed anything remotely close before or after. he has like three stock interests/influences he cycles through. flower sun and rain is neat, though. i wonder how moonlight syndrome will turn out.
I actually find The Silver Case’s best writing is in the segments written by Masahi Ooka about the journalist who’s name I can’t quite remember. Feels more grounded in the mundane (internet messageboards, making friends with a bartender, tending to your shitty apartment etc) than cops musing about what makes a man a man.
Killer7 feels like Suda with an editor which may have been Mikami or Capcom’s influence.
I actually like a lot of the writing in NMH but there’s a lot less of it there and it’s pretty clear that all the characters are disgusting pieces of shit who are wrapped up in their own nonsense.
Also: GEP Gun
Stick with the prod. Prod with the prod.
time trials is a blast too
(the physics have been altered since this release, and the old leaderboard appears to no longer exist, bummer)
some buds and i are mostly getting medals in time trials at the moment before venturing into the chaos of online
