I can't believe today was a good play (Games you played today)

compleed the first uncharted
it’s ok

Props to you! I still haven’t completed the first Uncharted. It’s a bit rough these days. Uncharted 2 is where the series really became what it is now.

the collection of the first three games is free on psn (or it was a few days ago at least) i’m gonna go back to shenmue 2 then play uncharted 2!

legendary design

A Short Hike is also extremely kid-friendly, it’s nice to have a game that I can hand the controller to primary schooler and they can master movement and inventory mechanics even if all they like doing is climbing as high as possible and power diving into the ocean. It sure beats trying to subtly remind them how to solve GNOG puzzles, or them watching me trying to remember Fez puzzles, or speed-playthrough of Gorogoa, or (the worst) forcing me to play The Witness.

We got the 20th golden feather. It’s hilarious watching someone learn how to fish, catch a fish and then immediately open the inventory to check on the fish they just caught. Also to point-blank refuse to interact with the fish-trading mechanic as it means less fish to look at.

I thought uncharted 2 was ok up until everything after the train, which felt incredibly padded out with endless combat, and then I hated it

The series as a whole has a problem where the last stretches tend to become giant gauntlets of combat and it becomes a slog. One of the bigger complaints I’ve got.

i figured as much so i never got around to playing 3 or 4. I did play the lost legacy though and liked it. the first game is worth playing if only for the laugh you’ll have when you have to drive a jet ski for the first time.

I’m not having a lot of luck finding similar games to play as a group, games are too hard. Hyper Light Drifter has an appealing aesthetic but has way too much fast reaction timing which is even harder with backseat commentary “Dada why are you so bad at this”. Even World of Goo has timed puzzles that make me feel too old and dumb to enjoy playing.

Yup, “ok up until _____, then incredibly padded out” is about how the other games went as well. Except Lost Legacy. That was pretty tight throughout.

Playing NIDHOGG 2 and thinking about the vocal negativity I saw to the game’s style on reveal. It feels like a logical extension of the first game’s retro-grotesque look, but I wonder if part of the issue people had was that they enjoyed the sort of royal/austere/abstract silhouetted element of the original and, in clarifying a vision, it shut out a lot of peoples personal projections.
I wonder how much the backlash took them by surprise
Anyways, I like it, the kind of game where it feels like it was fun to think about when working on it, designing and balancing the new weapons, spaces and respawns, and just the general aesthetic of overflow. Very upbeat

The Arland Trilogy is R18+ rated in Australia because of ‘References to Sexual Violence’ or something so yeah, there’s definitely some questionable stuff in these games. I bought this one as well because sale and I let out an audible groan when this character appeared, but I’m not surprised.

I’ve played through 4 of these because I’m drawn to the idea of JRPGs with chill vibes and no save the world plots, but as soon as you get started you can tell you’re in C tier budget moe anime land. The PS3 ones are also weirdly stressful thanks to the time limit.

I, not really on purpose, now have under an hour left of both doom eternal and half life alyx. one of them has gotten better and better toward the end and the other has made a lot of questionable choices! had a great time overall though. more to come.

I’ve started up Deus Ex again, by that I mean I’ve played through the tutorial/training mission for the second time a decade after the last time. I intend to get to the actual game this time.

My main impression so far is that the amount of unskippable dialogue in the training mission is very worrying, and some of the key bindings they went with are quite odd to 2020 me. I don’t know why I’d want to hold x to crouch (which makes walking forward with w a pain) or press [ to look down a scope, maybe twenty years ago this was common for some reason?

Nidhogg 2 is both easier to read and more visually appealing than the original send tweet

the one time I don’t have access to the “High Impact Sexual Violence” picture to shitpost with…

IIRC it’s specifically from Totori and involves a scene where she gets anime groped by another lady (this means they’re friends, so it’s okay, right)

you know, groping kids is funny

The first Neptunia game starts with two anime girls groping each other and I’ve never seen my best friend try to hide the vita screen from me faster

The switch releases are all R18+ except Meruru, which is MA15+

Funny thing is they were all PG at initial release, I think it’s just that the Plus editions needed to be re-classified because they were released after the R rating came into effect, and thus under new guidelines, even without much in the way of new story content they got re-assessed to be in the higher category.

And yeah I think it’s that particular scene plus everything to do with Astrid, who is just generally a bit of a creeper on 14 year old girls

Something similar happened to the DVD release of Azumanga Daioh, where a series that was expected to be G rated got slapped with MA15+ because of the creepy male teacher scenes in a few episodes

see, their mistake was owning a Vita and expecting that other people would treat them like a normal, well-adjusted adult
