we got component cables for the ps2 and it’s really funny, this is how I remember Old Games looking internally but I always just thought it was nostalgia. nope! my dad just never fucked with a/v bullshit and only ever did component, and then we upgraded to the weird oem hd av pack that you let play halo 2 at like, 720p. he was really particular about this stuff for a dude who barely played the thing

after playing through the DX release one (1) time when I got it for Christmas '99 along with my purple GB Color, i had been saving the Link’s Awakening remake for a rainy day, and so it was played through and finished, now I return to “craving new 2d zelda” standard operating procedure

Katana Kami: A Way Of The Samurai Story

there’s a playtest candidate of the shiren 2 n64 translation that can be had

graphics are untranslated, there are some text bugs, there’s a secret-passphrase-bonus system that’s unfinished and it retains several of the first game’s cultural problems, but it plays

i really love this game

I, uh, finally completed a playthrough of Fight’n Rage, Sebastián García’s 2017 mostly-solo-dev beat’em-up. I’ve started it up and progressed maybe six or seven times, since happening across it a couple years ago; I think maybe you have infinite continues but I didn’t want to credit feed.

Game is exceptional. Battle system is generous with plenty of cancelling and juggling for fun wild times but tight enough to not feel trivial. Parries, throw escapes, combo breakers oh my.

Love the little naughty animals you gotta rip and tear through. Dudley-clone Dobermans, etc. Optional paths, dynamic lighting, TMNT 3 NES tribute stage, the whole lot. I think there are, like, dozens of endings? What a game.

Oooh! I recently came across a translated version of the PSP game but this looks more charming. Where did you er…find this?

forum post dictating you join a discord server with instructions to follow external links to download, patch and configure requisite software ;-/ i imagine it’s been made willfully obtuse since this is a prerelease or whatever

playing the lion war hack @physical recommended and really having a good time with it. frankly it’s been so long i’m not even sure what’s different as i play, but i’m not too concerned. just winging it and building a party/set of jobs that feels right even if i end up feeling like i need or even want to grind is great. i don’t really know why i waited so long to stick with another playthrough (it was probably the dorter slums every time)

EXAPUNKS is so cool and I am so bad at it and I love it

I went through a bell curve of competency

Starting out: “I’m so bad at it”

Midpoint: “I’m history’s greatest genius and all should bow down before my beautiful EXA programming”

Postgame: “I am garbage at this, how did I ever fool myself into thinking otherwise?”

I’m impressed how even the cursor in sierra games flickers while moving it around like I remember it doing on crt monitors with crt-royale in retroarch

1CC Final Fight with Haggar achieved after a good 1-2 months of casual (dedicated) play. Only Guy left before I can claim ‘yeah, I can beat this game for 30 pence in 1992’

Edit: River City Girls was a charming time that never quite coheres as a balanced game but then I know little of what goes down in your typical River City experience besides buying cheap health items and spamming the one special attack that actually does some damage

At least the soundtrack was banging though

My main complaint with Thimbleweed Park, and what has kept me from finishing it despite making little chunks of progress over the years, is that it is basically kinda boring and not funny. The first scene with the body in the river and the over look spot of the county area are nice looking.

But then today I got to a part where they are questioning the town drunk and he begins confessing to all of history’s unsolved murders one by one and then admits that he “took The Beef” and I guess I am duty bound to finish it, now.

I think this sums up my time with every Zachtronics game I’ve played. Start off baffled at what you are seeing, get the basics down and start solving a bunch of puzzles, then understand enough of how things work to realize that everything you have done up until that point is sloppy as hell.

I have finished Hob which ends in an abrupt and kind of anti-climactic way, especially if you haven’t ferreted out the tiny bits of exposition that the game actually provides.

But the ending being ambiguous is good. The player is left to suss out their own feelings.

I think I might be too dumb for Shenzhen I/O

edit: this just in, too dumb for exapunks too. I’m gonna go play peggle or something, maybe that’s more my speed
