I played Quake for the first time and it was a lot more fun than i thought it would be! fun level design, great atmosphere, enemies are mostly a mixed bag and a lot weaker than dooms but that goes for every other FPS.
I wanted to plow through it quickly and get to the Arcane Dimensions mod which is what i’m going through now and wow, it’s amazing. beautiful, intricate maps, much more interesting enemies, better weapons, it’s one of the finest mods i’ve ever played for anything. it reminds me a lot of the love involved in the Thief mapping community (no surprise) which i used to follow heavily in the early 00s. i know Quake doesn’t have quite the same activity these days as Doom but there’s still some good stuff like annual jams (played a little of the Xmas one from 2019 and it’s great too) that i want to keep toeing around in before i start jumping into Doom wads. pleasantly surprised all around with this game!
In Ginseng Hero you are a bug. You walk like a marionette with magnets for feet and pick up swords and swords-on-sticks of various colors for what turns out to be a surprisingly… nuanced? fighting experience for what initially looks like wild flailing.
I mean it’s still mostly flailing.
It cost $3 and it took me about an hour to puppet-walk to what I think was to be my last Big Murder of the game, where I was (finally) murdered. There are no checkpoints, or save system. It prompts you to “save” your choice of weapon, that you might start the next run on better footing. I may never launch it again. $3 well spent.
Hire her as a bodyguard (requires you be on good terms with the bodyguard vendor, which I wasn’t, because I sent his clan a “rotten rice ball” that joker poisoned them, so I had to just send them gifts over and over until they would talk to me again)
Take her to the bottom floor of the dungeon (20F)
Talk to the mysterious Blacksmith, do the dialogue, then exit
Beat the bottom floor again
Go to the top left of the map and go into the cave
Once it’s unlocked you also unlock shortcuts (top left of base map) to the specific dungeon you want to challenge.
I’m really liking this game. I might write a guide for it.
It’s one of the quintessential totem jarpeegees imo, enjoy! Super charming cast throughout, I remember thinking the eng translator took some (usually +) liberties but you can tell it has great sensibilities regardless.
today in shadow hearts, a half bird half zombie evil priest blew up shanghai trying to suck out sativas holy soul power, and might have killed my main character. so sativa and dr octagon have been working in prague as exorcists for six months. we got word of a town being eaten by monsters. the mayor’s name is kevin and no one trusts him, not even the children. when the fog turns red the monsters come out. they’re horrible. look at this fucked up dog
all the enemies in Shadow Hearts are either 7 foot tall dripping goblin baby placenta monsters who grow strong by eating ass or grotesque horny crimes against God that committed horrible acts in a past life and constantly plead for death
yeah the HD collection has some obvious texture filtering but overall the result is pretty aesthetically pleasing as someone who gets really bothered by that stuff normally. at least it wasn’t really possible for them to fuck the fonts up as is usually the case with these things!
apparently i missed out on a sidequest because i picked the good answers. if you hold out and say nothing it buys yaoi some time to do a minigame, but i dunno what the prizes are and nothing can be better than saying THIS STRANGE MACHINE IS SO SEXY like im Barbarella in the orgasmatron
currently working on my second Ultra Genocide Murder Kill Sword in katana kami. i got a high-rank sword by killing a player avatar and i’ve improved it a bunch so now i just gotta grind other swords, transfer the titles, and i’ll have a true beast
apparently if you kill 1000 enemies with a single sword you can give it a title that buffs the damage by 200!!! wow
katana kami is super repetitive, but i think the charm of weird little moments like this helps ease it. also i’m pretty good at the combat and have a great sword now so beating a dungeon is easy and i haven’t died in hours
