way of the samurai fuckin rules
how is katana kami?
just finished the first dungeon. so far, very stripped down, diablo-like version of wots, which is to my liking.
The only thing that keeps it from being a masterpiece are the corridor levels, which misapprehend the game’s entire appeal
I strangely like them, especially the weird one that goes underwater, because the frame rate is much more tolerable on those than in the more ambitious exploratory worlds.
I’d like to hear what the dev team thought they were doing with Jumping Flash levels that disallow jumping
My best guess is that they worried about variety and how short the game is and threw in some quick first-person dungeon levels like were extremely popular in early PSX days.
Sounds like the Mirror’s Edge levels that focus on armed combat or all those dungeon zombie levels in Thief, both of which are vestiges of when the games were meant to be something else entirely. Could that be the case here?
dds 1: blown out prologue is my favourite kind of aberrant story, i always preferred introductions to conclusions. all the cutscenes talk around everything but NPCs after the fact will not, the plot actually comes from talking to randos who say “whoa i can’t believe x just happened” in reference to a cutscene you watched 2 minutes ago where x did not really happen. it’s a balm to stare thru 20 solid hours of nothing, slow repeated textures and three shades of sand. i also enjoy a lot of partynextdoor’s music
on to dds2
imo dds2 is kinda better in some ways, curious to see what you think - are u transferring ur data btw?
i’ve seen mixed reports on whether this works on the PS3 emulated ver, i’ll give it a go. i looked at an faq and it looks like i’ve missed out on a secret character and some other stuff… i didn’t bother w any of the secret bosses beyond human beelzebub & king frost. is it significant?
it is possible to do on ps3 (i did) but it’s a bit of a chore so don’t sweat it, you just get heat in your party later on and some items
it’s cool but you need to go into it with the mindset that it’s a budget game they made to raise money for a wots5, it’s a pretty straightforward mystery dungeon thing. a lot of the reviews on steam never rescued the blacksmiths daughter which is the first long term goal they give you and you can tell cuz 2/3 of the dungeons are locked behind doing that lol
i finished Doom 64, great port! i’m one of those that until recently always thought 64 was just yet another version of Doom 1 but in actuality it’s the real Doom 3. some of the 2 bestiary is missed and there’s a few obnoxious gotcha death traps at the end of some later levels but overall i was impressed that good maps would be coming out of Midway of all places.
the new levels added for the port are Fine but don’t add anything new or do anything better than the base campaign. the new final level has both the Mother (Sister) Demon and a Cyberdemon but it loads you up with so many powerups it ends up being much easier than the base final level with no keys. highly recommended!
now that i’ve got the itch maybe i’ll finally follow through on dipping into pwads from the last 25 years.
I really like this game. The sequence at the end (of the original release) is very EXTREMELY HACKER COOL.
I’ve been playing Dark Souls 2 and 3, jumping back and forth when one starts to annoy me. It’s given me a real appreciation for 2. I wish ds3 had kept pharros lockstones. And every time I fight a boss I am so happy when they fail to enter a second, annoying, phase
I love that the first shadow hearts is the ‘serious one’ and still has dialogue like this
the last time i played this i was posting screenshots of it in the axe on sb1
yea we’re playing together and this game is fuckin good as hell, I love the judgment ring system and I yelled at the tv when the healer girl went berserk in a boss fight and fucking tossed a revive item at THE LORD OF HELL. yuri is such a himbo. im invested in him being a dumbass who wants to punch demons while yelling FUCK YOU DAD!!!
I am on Day 11. Since you gave me a protip about the library I will tell you class is always in the second room on the third floor. I did not find the library because I assumed this was laid our like a Japanese HS and each floor was a different grade. I was wrong!
I have been visiting a hurt friend every day and reading Anna Karenina by the river.
The complaints in negative reviews for Katana Kami should sell you on how good it is.
Even worse if you use the life insurance to get back the items you lost any traps you can’t fit in your inventory will fall on the ground auto-trigger and just kill you
I think what made me decide to refund it was a single chain of stupid events. I picked up a sword that had a title on it, which gives the sword extra power or something. The sword turned out to be cursed even though I had identified it and it hadn’t mentioned being cursed. Cursed weapons force you to use them, so I did, figuring that when it broke I’d be able to drop it. Only… nope! If you try to use a cursed weapon and it breaks, you are now effectively dead: you have a weapon that does 1 damage and can’t get rid of it. Dying, by the way, removes all of your items and money.
That sold me on it, I just bought it
