played the trials of mana demo, it’s like ys but you get flashbacks to #zsnes on efnet twenty years ago with kids behind usernames like ||EXDEATH|| getting really excited for a fan translation
it’s quite nice?

was SD3 like never translated due to the difficult of making a romhack like RS2 or what
it was translated, and every tiny young weeb across the land was excited about it
It was a big deal like getting Tales of Phantasia running in emulation or getting the transparencies right in Super Metroid.
It was, like, that and Final Fantasy V that made the late '90s emulation scene melt.
Does the SD3 remake have any 2xSal or SUPER EAGLE filters?
ah, I see. I guess I was more excited about FFV back in the DOS IPS patcher days!
I made little .gif animations of the girl with the purple hair sleeping, that I used on my Tripod hard-coded proto-blog at the time.
the first non-dreamarena forum i posted on had a whole section just for seiken densetsu 3
I’m not very impressed by Trials of Mana, it’s a hundred times more shallow and slower than Ys 8, most areas feel unnatural and empty, the voiced cutscenes are a nightmare. In general it’s too faithful to the original, the switch from 2d to 3d should have brought more changes. The dancing shopkeepers just look lonely and sad now
On the positive side, the remixed OST rules, there are some very good Dragon quest 11 towns and the jump action is surprisingly not hindered by invisible walls everywhere
Edit: just compare the two
This looks like it would have made a really solid Dreamcast/PS2 game.
My sleeping meds ran out and I’m having trouble getting proper sleep again, but Sword of Vermilion before bedtime seems to help a little bit
sword of vermilion has such a sick soundtrack
It does indeed
And everyone’s face is covered in lime green pixels for some reason
Sword of Vermilion and Sorcerer’s Kingdom are both kick-ass, musically. In the first case, it’s because, you know, Kawaguchi. OutRun, Space Harrier, etc. In the latter… well, I dunno. But, lo!
Sounds like a shooter soundtrack, in an RPG. Which makes some sense, as this thing is by NCS/Masaya. (So… I guess it’s kind of maybe similar to the Kawaguchi effect?)
Stilt Fella is my GOTY 2020 so far. I’m about halfway through and jesus christ
very glad my VCR-sized designated Bluray player gets to play a game again
also I think my brain is melting
working from home for the forseeable future, so starting final fantasy 8
Think it might be too soon for me to Yakuza again after beating Yakuza 3. I keep trying to play 4 when I’m sleepy and feel like I’m missing a lot of the dialogue in the cutscenes, too (Akiyama is much more, uh, verbose, than Kiryu).
I guess I can put it off and mess with Doom Eternal on Friday.
Almost hopped into Modern Warfare’s Battle Royale mode but chickened out and just did some plain ol’ domination instead. Still, uh, pretty fun! Even if I’m terrible at it.
Is Puyo2 on snes significantly easier than the mega drive version? I suck at Puyo but managed to just beat the story mode with almost no trouble, while on the MD I got completely stuck at the witch. The AI just seemed to pile up the puyos and I’d win just trying to survive
i was just thinking about doing that, and basically for the same reason!!
