they added this gathering only gamemode to final fantasy xiv called the diadem. you go into this big ass ut2004 map and travel around it in a circle mining rocks or cutting down trees for their treasures. after you break enough shit you get to blow up a big guy with a laser bazooka, and you get his treasures too. it might be the perfect videogame.

naturally ive spent like the past 3 days in it smoking a fuckload of weed and meandering around smashing shit without a care in the world. its got that slow motion meditative hangout feel of like u and ur boys playing gmod at 3am just fucking around on freebuild listening to music has a right to children and smoking weed, not knowing how fucked up the rest of ur life is gonna be

Games I Didn’t Play:

Well, technically I played about 20 minutes of Vambrace: Cold Soul which has a combat system like Darkest Dungeon, a main character who is a Guileless Adventure Babe, and some pretty bad writing! I felt so tired after those 20 minutes I just deleted it.

I also deleted Metro: Exodus because it sounds like it’s sort of more of the same but with larger levels. I think I’m firmly in the camp that the first game in the series is the best one (one of these days I’ll play Redux and see if that’s the definitive one). Maybe I should just play S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Got to the top of Hawk Peak with 6 golden feathers in A Short Hike

Definitely run S.T.A.L.K.E.R. before Metro: Exodus, but in the cold light of 2019 “Metro with big outdoor levels” is as close as we have to S.T.A.L.K.E.R., a word I cannot use to end a sentence with. Unfortunately the writing in Metro: Exodus gets pretty pulpy and in a lamely sexist way, when it’s not undercutting the survival ethos it apes from S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

I uninstalled DOOM and I’m now addicted to playing Warner Bros. Gauntlet™

I play Wizard because he’s literally Invoker from Dota and doing spell combos makes me feel smart

what if I told you there’s a game like this except it plays like a MMZ game

explain

Witch legit is about mashing out different combos for different spells for element and aoe/single target/healing/support depending on the situation

also @landroverattack worked on the game

looks kinda similar to Mercenary Kings which I did not like very much

Gauntlet mostly appeals to me as a twin stick shooter

Witch class looks cool

we’re adding another spell casting class too, except she also has big floating swords

Pretty good game there that I never had anyone to play with, but enjoyed enough on my own.

faith is absolutely what’s needed to believe this will turn out well or with any continuity to the game from 13 years ago

but I want to believe

90% of the STALKER team was gone after they canceled it the first time, whatever’s left of the reformed GSC seems to be banking on nostalgia for their past franchises (cossacks 3 was not super great!!)

Shadow of Chernobyl was way better than the sequels anyway

Unmodded SoC 4 lyfe

I was super deep into the english modding scene for SoC (I still have beef with kanyhalos the oblivion lost guy who put WoW music in his fucking mod lol) and the Russians put us to shame within like, a month of the game coming out. Without the AMK team 90% of the love people have for STALKER in the West wouldn’t exist imo.

I played SoC when I was a weak gamer in middleschool and found it very hard, but managed to beat it. While I was in college I decided to play it again and installed the Complete mod without knowing much about besides bug fixes or whatever. I was shocked at how much easier it was to replay the game and I quickly finished it. I thought it was a sign of true gamer progression, a heightening of my skills and mental faculties. But then I learned that Complete notoriously mangles the challenge and I felt like a fraud.
