Now of course it is time to listen to the Hinge Problems about Shenmue.

Bayonetta (PS4): currently on stage two Chapter II and getting absolutely destroyed by pretty much everything I come across, from the rank-and-file of the Heavenly Host to my character’s own flashbacks.
edit: buckled down and completed Ch. II this evening, despite my lack of sleep. also managed to Pure Platinum the tutorial, albeit after an embarrassing amount of trial and error. can’t see me doing that again anytime soon.

This was a while ago and not sure how it is on modern Windows 10 but BASSMIDI despite looking like it hasn’t updated in decades worked way better then virtualmidisynth ever did. Looking into it now though it seems to have been discontinued by the developer? Can still be found on file hosting sites but
According to this random Wiki result I guess something called OmniMIDI is what all the cool kids are using now? This site could just be fake advertisement for their bitcoin miner for all I know.
Does anyone remember the name of that 1GB MIDI soundfont that started out as an pack made of Evanescence samples or something?
I listened to the Shenmue Hinge Problems and feel I can at least better understand what others got out of it, so yay for that. What struck out to me is the couple times people compared it to Silent Hill 2 and that is one of the big SB games that I finally got around to playing and got little out of (playing it a year after the original was a big mistake, macro-wise it borrows so much I felt like I was playing Silent Hill Too for large stretches) so I think unlike many here I near more of the big macro-level stuff to be more… involving in order for all those smaller micro-level details to catch or hold my attention.
Anyways I followed this up by picking a random game off the shelf and playing it, so that is how I played Alien Hominid for a bit earlier today. It’s not good!
I followed that up by starting Baba Is You and I think that’ll be more my speed.
So I thought that Alien Hominid had five stages split up into smaller sections, but in fact it only has three stages split up into smaller sections. When the credits started rolling after the third one by surprise… that was the happiest the game had made me in my whole time with it. I recommend pretending this game doesn’t exist and sticking to the many other better run and gunners out there.
I completed the second section in Baba is You, which included all of the extra stages. I did not know that there were extra stages until the second section, so I went back to the first one to check the ones out there. I can’t figure out how to get through the second one there. The game purposefully lets you skip a good number of puzzles and still make forward progress but… I am a very stubborn man who won’t walk away.
i played final fight streetwise on stream because i thought it would be a funny ha ha time, but it turns out i actually like the game
Indivisible is pretty rad, although I’m not sure my slow, sleep-deprivation-damaged old man brain can keep up with the combat. We’ll see. I sorta wish there was a couch co-op mode for you and three friends so your friends could play with you during combat, each controlling a character. Could be a real fun time!
I have barely played my actual copy that I own, because there were so many other things happening when I got it, but I remember earnestly enjoying what it was doing at E3. People thought I was nuts.
i finally dipped into divinity: original sin 2 a bit. i really should finish some other stuff i’m playing and save this for the summer, but it’s not like this year isn’t already full of releases i’m awaiting… that aside, i’m curious: my first impulse was to choose fane as main because spooky skeleton. he heals with poison and blood and he seems like perhaps the most interesting protagonist among these other characters. lohse seems great, too, though perhaps more as a party character…? beyond that i’m torn between sibelle and the red prince, with ifan trailing a bit.
the conflict i’m having now is i keep reading that it’s better to skip fane until a second playthru because his story reveals so much that he basically overshadows everyone else and ruins the mystery you might enjoy better without him.
any thoughts?! should i just stick w/ this fane as main playthru or hold off?
Fane and Ifan are the only ones who are close to being connected to the “main” story such as it is, and Fane moreso. I would absolutely take him as a companion but I think he might be a bit flat as a main.
Red Prince and Lohse both have hugely enjoyable side storylines that don’t really scan without them; Beast has a side storyline that mostly still works without him
Sibelle actively competes with some others’ stories and is better for a Co-op playthrough or second playthrough
Basically I would somewhat strongly recommend a party of Fane / Prince / Lohse for your first time and use a custom character or Ifan / Beast for your main
do you not think fane’s storyline spoils too much for the rest, then? it seems like waiting to main him w/ perhaps sibelle, beast, and a created character on my 2nd time through would be satisfying if his plot is really as revelatory as people suggest.
no that’s nonsense the game is long as shit and he provides good story details
kinda sounds like i should just stick with what i’m doing, then, which is fane as main w/ red prince, ifan, and lohse… but sibelle seems cool so it’s a bit of a bummer that it sounds like i might never play as/with her at all unless i actually do play it for a second time. hmm. it’s a bit further frustrating that running a character as main ‘flattens’ their personality or dialogue options…? haha ok gonna think this over.
honestly wouldn’t worry about it too much, i ran a created character + ifan and it was still great
I suffered an irreparable glitch after some 80 hours of good times, although 30 of those hours were afflicted by a loading bug that hurt making quick saves on a whim, and it is very much one of those games that compel that approach to playing due to skill checks etc.
I ran Fane/Ifan/Red Prince and for a while had Fane doing lizard cosplay to complement my player character and had no regrets. Ifan gets pretty OP early on in Fort Joy if you care to follow-up on his story from to get go (Recommend).
gran turismo sport has a timeline of human history you can compare to the histories of different car manufacturers. i want to get good at it just because of this
