It is with a heavy heart that I must confirm my own fears - I’ve probably played as much Assassin’s Creed as any person can possibly handle.
I still have both sets of Odyssey DLC to knock out and scads of missions and map markers untouched, but goddamn there’s only so much of the same things over and over one can take.
bloodstained has a huge delay on further inputs if you whiff an attack, almost non-existant when you hit an enemy with an attack. An easy thing I’ve found to just attack faster is neutral jump -> attack right before landing -> immediately attack again after landing
not really necessary for the game because its so easy but it feels more satisfying for me
I think 90% of my equipment choices were based around improving attack speed
Had a real good time with Timespinner. It’s a two world Search Action game with a “go back in time and kill Hitler OR Julius Ceasar point to it.” It has two? Gay relationships.
It also has trans representation that is maybe the one sore spot of the thing. A quest reward is a woman going btw I used to be a man and was conscripted in the army and then got out and found myself.
Playing this the same time as Bloodstained I had a laugh that both games featured backer portraits.
But I liked the game’s small scope. I liked macro and micro story. I liked the verb set and when it chooses to expand it. It would only put “fun coming soon” right next to a boss fight where afterwards you would get the “fun” starting with the ledge grapple was good. Afte the first 20 minutes you really never use your TIME abilities again.
Ori can bite me. Immediately after getting the double jump it gave me this ability to fling myself with the right analog with lanterns, projectiles, and enemies. If I fling with a projectile it flies off in the opposite direction. It then gave me a long vertical room where I was to keep re-directing a projectile so it can destroy a wall with a pittering splat. A combination of stresstful, boring, and the knowing payoff of it was going to be making me do this at least 5 more times if not in this area than in the rest of the game. After failing once I went “no. no.” and uninstalled.
I had assumed it was just a DeviantArt Miyazaki tribute that had somehow attained videogame form and thus everyone bought on every platform but nobody played
second one still looks great, they hired the intrusion 2 guy a couple years ago, I fully expect it to be genuinely great in all the ways the first one wasn’t quite
I was going to say something about that section having just done it the other day. It was like okay this is cool game is kind of easy tho and then bam skill check are you a bad enough dude to continue playing this video game?
It took me 20 minutes or so but I was. I was a bad enough dude. I’m going to try and finish it in time for the sequel.
Dead Cells is way different than I was expecting it to be. It’s got a much higher tempo than I was expecting. I might keep plugging away, although I’m not sure if the roguelike structure is going to wear me out in an action game.
I like it a lot, the mobility and weapon choices are great, and I never feel like the game fucks me over with a terrible build. I can always get something good. Big difference compared to other roguelikes.
That said I have yet to beat the final boss cuz I’m bad at it. Have all the utility/progression stuff unlocked at least.
