I can't believe today was a good play (Games you played today)

I never got too into playing Brigador, but yeah, the soundtrack is great.

Brigador is great because it rewards what I call ‘combat stealth’, which is constantly repositioning during a fight to break line of sight and cause AI confusion. If you try and play it straightforward murdering everything, you’ll probably not do well except with very conservative builds, but if you use sound and sight to your advantage when evading, it opens up this beautiful mechanical sandbox where one guy in a loader suit is effortlessly annihilating tanks ten times his size.

They really poorly communicated that this is how you play the game on launch, but later updates tutorialized it and now it’s the best isometric shooter i’ve played in ages.

Yakuza 0: I’ll be honest- I couldn’t make it past the Rush tutorial. I had to quit after noticing that the mook they give you as a punching bag had actually scored more than enough hits to kill me.

brigador on switch and I only play that game forever

(I guess in between dragon’s dogma but w/e)

(I know it didn’t sell super well which is a huge bummer because everything in and around the game is p great)

It ended up selling well - I was commiserating with them after lunch as a fellow odd controls for good reason isometric shooter, but a year later they turned it around. Miraculous.

I didn’t realize they put Stories Untold on Switch, so I snagged that.

Only played episode one (The House Abandon) but, holy shit. The question of “how can a text adventure game be scary” sure got answered there.

In my eshop browsing I have seen at least two strike clones.

@Tegiminis explain how to Herzog.

Capture bases as quick as possible, save up for a few defensive tanks and SAMs, then start pushing enemy bases. Send units to enemy main base to buy some time with pressure. Watch your fuel. Infantry are cheap and fast to produce so swarming a base is legit. If you’re waiting for something to build or money to accrue go bully the other player in ship mode or attack their home defenses in ground mode.

Gist of all Herzog Zwei play is dividing attention, since you can’t be everywhere at once. Use that to your advantage - take bases closer to the enemy’s base as they harass yours, pick off units while the enemy is on the other side of the map - and you’ll win.

I meant like how do you build stuff.

MMOs where barbers don’t exist and you are locked into your characters appearance for their entire lifetime are the biggest failures of games

Press C.

Three options, up/down changes between them:

Unit: Left/Right to choose unit to build
Order: Left/Right to assign unit order
Map: Left/Right to change between large and small maps

Total cost of unit + order is displayed on screen, press A to confirm purchase
Unit builds for a while, when you see okay sign, it’s ready
Visit any allied base and press A to retrieve a unit

I am I assume nearing the end of stage 6 in God Hand and I am pretty sure that I’ve had the option of spanking every single female I’ve come across (and avoiding doing so actively makes the game harder) except for my female companion who I believe solely exists to be on all fours with the camera aimed right at her behind. Maybe there is a lady hostage or two I am forgetting.

Basically I wish the game had a bit more chill.

finished salt and sanctuary. i like it, but the map turns into a spaghetti mess by endgame which kinda sucks. not much sense of space, levels are just platforms hanging around. enjoyed it because i’m a dark souls fucker and i love to dodge and whack things with greatswords. the offering system is cool but underutilized, and there wasn’t enough ways to manipulate drop rates for item grinding. i beat the last 5 bosses first try, so it had a pretty weird difficulty curve.

Gave Bloodstained a run and either I don’t like how it controls or there is something wrong with my controller and the game. Like input lag? or is it supposed to feel that lurching and weighty. also swear it drops jump inputs. And I don’t like how long of the cooldown before I can do anything on the weapons. Like I said it feels wrong and maybe that is on me.

I’m switching between it and Ori and Timespinner so having a real Search Action time. I like Timespinner the most I think. It has given me minimal “fun coming soon” and I could skip meeting all the fun villagers that were immediately killed by the evil empire. The so far minimal puzzles have been pleasant and mostly about freezing time where I can use an enemy as a platform. And it doesn’t always telegraph now is the time to do it. After 5 minutes I was playing the game and moving the plot along and that was pleasant.

Yeah, finally got around to Brigador in the fall and really dug how it tends to make you put more thought into how/when you start fights, but at the same time encourages aggressiveness given how overshield works and you basically need to keep killing shit to keep you maximum durability up.

Probably my biggest issue with it is that you have separate control options for mechs/tanks and agravs, but I think tanks need to have their own option too because of how incoming damage is based on the hull facing and the slower turn speeds means being able to back up immediately or retreat with your front armor at the enemy is really damned handy and I get annoyed switching the controls back and forth.

It is, and in a way this is pretty in line with its clear main referent point, but being in 3d Unreal and such feels really wrong. It takes a while to feel right, and usually that is because you figure out which weapons work best with it and which items help you move faster and such. But it’s weird!

im about halfway through shining force and its PROMOTION TIME. the way ive always played is i promote as soon as i get a weapon i cant use, but some people swear up and down to wait til 20 for max stats

but like
the game isnt that hard, i don’t really have to freak out about being strong enough at all

ALSO I HATE WAITING TO COSTUME CHANGE

zylos post promotion attack sucks ass though. his normal attack was a bad ass dive bomb. he cuts your face with a vega claw! but now he just summons what looks like tissue paper flying sideways. IM GONNA GET RID OF HIM AS SOON AS I GET A NEW CHARACTER HMPH
