SMT4 Neutral ending appears to be “demons give human saviour a grocery list and sends them off without preparation.” I think I’m on the last one but it’s the second fight with the Red Knight surprise it’s Beelzebub which has absolutely ruined me even before I can take a turn. So I guess I’m grinding for a bit and just casually fill out my compendium that I just figured out how to set the search options for finding new fusions.
finished the other quake mission pack (it sucks in case anyone is curious not really worth playing at all except for a handful of kind of neat level concepts)
now playing the machinegames episode they made a few years ago. it’s so incredible, a really tightly designed experience on nightmare, feels like survival horror with the amount of resource management you have to do to get by.

If you want an alternative look for quake 1 that still maintains some sort of continuity with classic quake, the only real choice is qbism super8
most the darkplaces footage I’ve seen looks awful but I’m kind of into it when it preserves the low texture resolution and low poly character models.
I guess I’d have to install it and tweak all kinds of settings to not make it look stupid and tbh I’m perfectly happy with how fitzquake looks and feels.
like ideally it would be nice to have better real time lighting effects and keep everything else exactly the same
it’s def got bugs/flaws but a nice spreadsheet game for sure
switch from fitzquake to quakespasm at the least, fitzquake hasn’t been updated in ages and interpolates animations kind of weird iirc
also the quakespasm website is perfect for how it takes itself WAY too seriously
I got through 75% of the O&S fight on my first try which feels like an accomplishment of its own
i just switched from darkplaces to quakespasm yesterday and i’m not the quake source port guru tulpa is, but i would agree–it’s better! i recommend a few little tweaks, though: make an autoexec.cfg file in the quake exe folder and paste in:
gl_texturemode 1
r_particles 2
startdemos demo3 demo1 demo2
demos
and then add “-fitz” to your launch options in steam if you’re playing via steam so the attract mode runs instead of quakespasm’s silent title screen (i think this also changes some other settings to be more like fitzquake but idk)
also make sure you’ve got the music in the music folder ofc
i installed beaucoup DS games on my wii u. please tell me cool DS games to play. i already installed all the dragon questies and et cetera because of course i did. gonna try out 999 and hotel dusk room 215 and idk… other stuff? i forgot what’s good on ds tbh. oh yeah i put bangai-o on there.
holy fuck the wii u is great at playing DS games!
it’s also wonderful to have a “handheld” that i can just reach over and grab while lying in bed, bootup retroarch and play mega man 3 for a few minutes before passing out. just chef’s
