Yeah, the trick is, after the underwhelming and vague ending, Hussie caved in and announced heā€™d patch the ending by adding an epilogue. So the ride is not over yet anymore!

I donā€™t know where else to talk about this, so I guess the official thread is as good a place as any: Homestuck 2 started up today.

Did we talk about the Epilogues? I canā€™t remember. I enjoyed the Meat/Candy dichotomy and the way it both catered to audience expectations while doing it in a bit of a hostile manner. I remember some folks really hated the Epilogues, but now I have no recollection of where that conversation occurred.

Unlike Twin Peaks, Homestuck 2 is perfectly willing to admit that itā€™s about itself. Dirk became a villain because a villain has to exist so that heroes are compelled to act, resulting in the story continuing. Once the story is over, he stops existing, except in retrospect. He couldnā€™t exist in the irrelevant context of the Candy timeline; in the canonical context of the Meat timeline, he becomes the reason for existence. Our protagonists, then, will be (wittingly or not) fighting for the opportunity for their story to end.

I just kind of wish Hussie would do something completely new already.

I never read the epilogues or knew they existed until now.

I will probably not read this new thing either.

Hiveswap was good though. I am excited to play act 2 in 2027.
