i was able to topcoat ONE LEG of my zssa before it started raining and now im in super motivated mode but i cant actualy do the thing im super motivated to do
like im trying to figure out if theres any good alcoves to be covered from the rain, but most of them in my neighborhood have been fenced off becuase seattle hates the homeless. its so dumb how they take pictures of homeless people ‘flooding the streets’ and then literally bar off anything that would keep them out of the middle of the sidewalk in a dry area
i wish i had a tent for camping id set it up in the middle of the alley mask up and just spray in there with the door open hahaha, cars be damned

the humidity in the air will affect some varnishes, even spraying undercover. the varnish traps water vapour and the coat goes cloudy. no problem, spray again later. new solvent loosens the existing coat and new varnish pushes out the water
similar problem with cold (my biggest challenge for spraying), but there the varnish dries in flight and lands gritty. I try to avoid it by rattling those cans for 5-10 minutes to get them warm
a spray tent is a great idea, my spray station is a cardboard box I put on its side to catch the overspray. I could spray inside with it, but aiieee! the curing stinks up the place

I made a guy!! @jadeddesigner gave me an IBO kit for Christmas
This time I tried out a technique that Tom at the local gunpla store told me about. You panel line everything without much care while it’s still on the runner
Then you sand to 400 or 600 as you build. The sanding removes the excess panel liner so you get really nice lines and the sanded pieces mean the top coat goes on very nice

All assembled, though the swords and wings aren’t top coated
I painted a couple of spots which turned out really well, the tips of the crest, the backs of the legs, and the cross pieces on the swords
It looks great! Definitely the best looking gundam I’ve ever built. I generally don’t think gundam gundams are my thing but spending so much time on this one I came to appreciate it. I’m not sure I’d do it for every kit but I can’t argue with the results!

look at this head! this head has so many fucking pieces! the silver in the middle of his mouth is not color seperation, thats a gunpla marker (and the beginning of my obsession with SHINY DETAILS on this kit) but the red and yellow is!! and those swing forward and back!! and the monoeye does the thing where it moves when you look left and right so i had to make sure it was in a position where itd look off to the side when the head was on straight, because i love it when the zeong has anxiety

more beautiful color seperation, oooo also note how much grey there is, a lot of that will turn to silver later!
are those rocket boosters or guns or sockets for arms or what? i think they’re boosters right? i usually paint boosters red but it didnt seem right here. i just added some silver on the protrusions and thought it came out alright! one of those details you dont see unless you’re looking for it. all four of those swing outward from the body. theres so much amazing movent going on

I LOVE WIRE IN A KIT. IF A KIT HAS SOME WIRE YOU KNOW ITS A FUCKING WINNER. black wire is alright but RED WIRE now thats a treat. i had to take a picture because you CANNOT SEE THE FUCKING WIRE FROM ANY ANGLE WHATSOEVER WHEN ITS ASSEMBLED. so if you get this kit, adn you HATE wire then you can just avoid it. everything adds weight though, and i think hefty solid feeling kits are the greatest. i kept picking up assembled parts and hefting them in my hands becuase i was so impressed. i dropped it like three or four times and nothing even popped off!!! the zeongs head antennae arent rubber though so make sure you store him in a safe place while building. luckily i didnt break any prongs this time but i USUALLY DO and i usually just glue them back together
i took a couple skeletal wire pictures because i really liked it poking through and noticed IT WOULDNT BE DOING THAT FOREVER
i love the rocket boosters but its like building five legs. like DO THIS FIVE TIMES, DO IT FIVE TIMES AGAIN, AND AGAIN, AND AGAIN. i guess theres less pieces overall, but whenever i get to a step where i have to do the same thing multiple times i just slow down. i get a lot of enjoyment from novelty building like OO IVE NEVER SEEN THIS GIMMICK BEFORE. but! ive also noticed!!! i get really excited when i see pieces fit together, or runners that ive assembled before! im like ooo they put these two kits together to make something new. ive noticed a lot of builders get upset when bandai reuses runners or pieces but i think its ingenuitive and resourceful. it impresses me
more booster butt skeletons. i just love how much detailing is on parts no one will ever see
ASSEMBLED BUTT AND TORSO!!! now you can start seeing where i get silver-happy. but look at that machinery pop! it looks like it came out of a FACTORY! A FACTORY THAT MAKES KILLING MACHINES!! THE BRASS JUST DONT GET IT! the big square hole is where you plug the action base in if you want him to present his butt outwards, in an attack pose. theres MORE WIRES for this pose too so you can disconnect his arms like in the show but
i dunno the noodle looks funny, especially cuz i dont have effect parts (cuz they take up more room! and also COST FOURTY DOLLARS MORE??? THE KIT ITSELF IS 58 DOLLARS IM NOT PAYING FOURTY DOLLARS FOR PISS YELLOW CLEAR PLASTIC NO THANK YOU)

THAT YELLOW ZEON SYMBOL IS MY FIRST WATERSLIDER! turns out they’re fine and easy and okay. not EASY. like i almost tore a couple of the long white ones along the bottom, and sometimes it took me like 3-4 minutes to get one sticker in the right place, but after a while i kinda got into a groove and had fun! i even listened to PODCASTS (just two episodes of nora but it really helped me concentrate! i might get it now! i might have broken through my inability to listen to people talk when theyre not in the room!)
i was incredibly paranoid about destroying pieces as i continued my build so i wanted to topcoat as i put decals on. this kit was also my first attempt at a glossy topcoat (i wanted the silver to sparkle!), i had only done a matte one before, i was worried itd look like shit BUT I WAS WRONG

back pussy so shiny you wanna lift those flaps and see what glistens inside. BUT YOU CANT. I DIDNT GLOSS COAT THE BOTTOM. DONT FUCKING LOOK
okay actually do look cuz i did a ton of silver detailing here that NO ONE WILL EVER SEE UNLESS I PICK UP MY ZEONG AND SCREAM ‘LOOK! LOOK! BEHOLD MY STABLE HAND! AND EYE FOR DETAIL!!!’
chest finished. at this point i was getting really excited becuase after all these steps once i topcoated the part was DONE. there was no going back and fiddling with tiny grey pieces that i could color silver, no more adding decals, nothing. just assembly and beauty
i was marking off everything i placed with a RED X in the manual so i could have a visual indicator of how much ive done. the work is slow and i need constant reminders that im making progress. also ive noticed that the 15-30 seconds you need to actually soak the waterslide decal so it SLIDES WATERLY is the perfect amount of time for me to forget what im doing, get distracted, and go do something else online for a few minutes. so this might have taken half as much time if i had a working attention span. im proud i finished at all

THEN IT STARTED RAINING so i couldnt top coat a part THE SECOND I FINISHED and know that the waterslide wouldnt get damaged (did i say that? the reason i was obsessed with getting the topcoat on was not only cuz it signified DONE but also because it seals away and protects the waterslide from accidents. there were a bunch of times where id be holding a piece applying a decal and then id put it on, put the part down, and realize that an older waterslide was now stuck to my finger and id have to re-apply it. the topcoat meant i can touch and rub my zeong all over. so smooth, ooo lala). i just clipped up all my parts so they wouldnt bonk eachother and waited for the rain to end
and guess what
IT DID!
and so did my rg zeong adventure. i have him up on little kickstands instead of the action base. i think its cool he looks like hes floating! but wait… is there something missing?? its only partially done? NO. THE ZEONG IS AT FULL WORKING CAPACITY. THE BRASS JUST DONT GET IT
