iCloud photos is horrendous on 10, it’s been near-broken for years, idk if they improved it on 11
got an ultimate 8bitdo wireless controller and switched the buttons to xbox ones to replace the elite. I’ve completely forgotten how to play kamiwaza

what is this its very scary to me
I went to Re-PC and found the “analog tv shit” bin and I wondered if it had an RF modulator in it. It did, and not only that it had RCA inputs in it. the next thing I did was scrounge up some very very old video cables, an antenna to coax adapter, and I ran home and tried to hook my xbox up to a TV I found on the side of the road a few years ago that runs off D batteries
the vertical sync works for maybe one second before the setup gets breathed on and it becomes unrecoverable
I wonder if there’s a way to mend it so I can hook a PS3 up to it and play demon’s souls lmao
Does anyone know off-hand if there is a way to get the Android “work profile” experience even if your company doesn’t enable that feature? Or a replacement that is as close as possible?
I really, really hate having my work apps and data mushed up against my personal. But I tried Islands and it’s -way- too separated. With work profiles, I still had the option to (explicitly and selectively) transfer information and files between the two spaces. Islands just straight up isolates everything hardcore. There appears to be some setting for granting cross-“land” perms, but only for supported apps and… the apps I want this for are not listed.
Creating a separate user profile in Android is similarly isolated in a frustrating manner.
I just wish I could force a particular profile into a “work profile” even if my company wasn’t actually managing anything or enabling that feature on their end.
rescued one of those tiny thinkcentre things from getting thrown out, repasted it and threw a spare old sata ssd in
now i just have to figure out a purpose for it
I probably have some post in me about how much fun I had building a new server out of 13th gen intel with ddr4 but maybe later
For now (and I maybe asked this before but I forgot) what should I look for in a wireless mechanical keyboard? I think I’d prefer a non-BT-only option because I can notice the latency in BT sometimes but if it had BT as well I would appreciate the flexibility. This is just for big screen TV gamin’ so mega battery life is not a priority and plugging into power isn’t a big deal.
a month late but i’ve got an onboard realtek nic randomly shitting itself at the moment
(lol this pc has been terrible. i should have stuck with my rock solid 6600k build for a few more years)
I ended up getting a pair of old intel X540 enterprise 10G PCIe cards off ebay. I’ll use the onboard 2.5G realtek for SMB multichannel if I can and the onboard Intel 1G for management
I channeled my inner felix to make a god in a tiny box, an i5-13400 in an itx z690 board with 64gb of ddr4 and 3 16tb wd red pros in raid-z1 with some nvme flash for higher iops stuff like containers
Flash and ddr4 are ludicrously cheap right now, huge glut in the market
all of my linux machines/vps are debian stable or rocky but i put ubuntu server on this thinkcentre for a change
they’re still doing that thing where you go to install like, neovim or something and it starts downloading gnome lol

Trying out the 10 gigabit nics I picked up and it’s a beautiful thing to see a sustained 750MB/s network transfer
Recommended SSD enclosures?
basically anything. the cheapest one on amazon will probably do it, just depends on whether you need something other than USB3
Yeah as long as it supports UASP (which is not rare) and otherwise meets the specs of your drive I’d pick whatever has an appealing form factor etc
I gave up on am5 and gpus for this generation so I’m getting a used 6600xt off ebay for $200 and am otherwise just putting this old i5-6500 in a new case
since i am stupid enough to commit to doing an AsrockRack X470 board + Ryzen CPU NAS build (don’t ask) that has two 10Gbe NICs, I have upgraded home network with a Zyxel 10GbE managed Switch and now always think ‘that illuminated LED right there could be blue, not yellow or green’.
So, with that in mind — just askin’ for a friend! ![]()
Which card(s) have you investigated/looked at, and which one did you get?
n.b: also on my To-Do-list: get a USB 3.x docking station hub thingie that offers a 10GbE NIC, so that my elderly Thinkpad T450s can wing it another (few) years or so...
I got some old (2012!) Intel X540-T2 dual rj45 cards and made sure to get the fanless variant. PCI-e 2.1 x8. There are ones with SFPs as well but the ability to use direct attach copper in a few places was outweighed by the costs of the SFPs for the baseT runs. These cards don’t do multigig, so it’s 10G or 1G. They were under $50 on ebay (example) OS support has been flawless in both windows and linux.
For switching I got a pair of these 2x10G 4x2.5G unmanaged switches QSW-2104-2T-A | A plug & play switch featuring 10GbE and 2.5GbE connectivity, suited for SOHO and professionals | QNAP (US)
One by the server and one in my office. Both desktops end up with 10G connections to the server and I have enough 2.5G for flexibility later.
I am putting a corporate wiretap in my home. All they had to do was offer it “free” and attach it to a really big television. Crossing my fingers it gets jail broken quickly otherwise I wouldn’t have considered it, but also going out of my way to acquire credit/assets irt debt default possibility.
It’s called “Telly” if anyone else wants to sell their soul. Make sure to download the app via the website link because searching app stores leads to multiple Czech malware apps with an identical logo.
@doolittle a while ago you mentioned that you have some program than does BFI in the video output from your PC instead of on the display itself. What are you using to do that? I finally got 120hz set up between my desktop and my TV and I’d like to check it out
