In brighter news ios/macos ui might be less dogshit in the near future:
meta saw that liquid glass shit hated by literally everyone and decided to indulge in their favorite past time of lighting money on fire
I do this all the time, why do they put a latch on the displayport??
no actually connectors should have some kind of lock or latch on them so DP is right and HDMI is wrong
what we should be doing is normalizing SDI/BNC connectors but the people will tell me to shut up because I speak the truth
you can go on Amazon right now and buy a shitass crimper and BNC connectors of dubious origin and roll your own cables after buying a spool of RG-59/RG-6 coax
just a ground and copper cable doing the work
human readable cable
absolutely love that someone posting furry art turned into strenuous advocacy for a coaxial cable crimper and bnc connectors. a tear in my eye
work have announced that we have an underspend and everyone has £300 of home working allowance to spend by the 31st
I already spent my original allowance years ago, maybe I do need a better USB3 dock. or 10 spare US-layout A1314 keyboards. in case something happens to the 4 I already have
The RAM I bought a year ago went up in price 4.5x
Now I’m looking at am4 boards/cpus for my wife’s computer because she sat on getting a new one for too long and the 64gb of ddr4 in there is too valuable to waste
Why is the connector always made with the world’s most brittle plastic?
The price on everything going up keeps making me look at those fucked up PS5 APU mining cards on eBay…they’re not as cheap as they were when people were first modding them into (somewhat) mini PCs, but…
if I can reuse my ddr4 ram and buy 32gb more of it, I wonder if I can upgrade the motherboard with a new cpu.
mismatched ram is very very hard to use in modern machines because the timings are so sensitive. If you’re trying to complement an existing kit make sure it has the same CL numbers at the same speed (and even then you’ll probably have to dial in the timings by hand rather than use xmp/expo)
also I think your odds will be better with intel than AMD, AMD’s memory controllers are historically a lot more sensitive to having the exact right hardware and settings
i guess im fucked then
you can a) find more of the exact same model, b) learn more about memory timings than you want to, or c) just buy a whole new kit and sell what you have
but generally speaking while in the DDR2 days you could buy memory with slightly different timings and trust the motherboard to find a maybe slower but probably unnoticeable sync rate for them, modern ram is way too fussy for that to not cause issues
if you have to go the “learn more about timings” route that’s not even so bad, the important thing is that the ratios are generally consistent, so if you know you have eg CL30 DDR5 6000, you can just copy the other values from another CL30 DDR5 6000 kit, you just probably can’t use the most optimistic ones you find
last time I built a computer I waited until a game studio closed down and bought one of their workstations so maybe I could do that again. Kinda wish I had gotten a rig from my old studio
keep almost buying this keyboard cause it’s the only one they got that has optical switches and can wirelessly connect to my mousepad, but then I realize how the hell am I going to hit the home key to bring up reshade and mess with shaders
Wireless connect to your mousepad?
it’s logitech’s wireless thing. well they changed it now if you buy a newer one I think the wireless receiver plugs into the computer separately but the older one I have the receiver is in the mousepad which the wireless mouse I have also charges off of. itx so less usb slots taken up the better and could use a keyboard easier with my tv if it’s connected to the pc through the mousepad and doesn’t matter where it’s actually plugged into to charge, was my thinking.
