Hardcore Will Never Die But Hardware Will

do you have or want an audio interface?

Unsure what that means.

in that case you probably don’t want one, but it’s a USB box with preamps and DACs to use XLR microphones/line in on a computer

dunno about USB condenser mics because i just use an SM58 with an interface

for speakers i like my presonus eris 3.5ā€

for a headset i like my yincrow x6 (earbuds) or portapros with an inline mic

Seems I spoke too soon about mobo bios updates fixing my expo ram profile. started having boot issues again, then my windows got corrupted and will no longer boot, even in safe mode. currently using my macbook to make a bootable windows drive to try to repair my install. there’s no chance this is anything but the ram, right?

it’s probably the ram

now i can’t even get into the bios to try to boot off this usb. man, I love computers. hopefully the ram didn’t make my entire computer explode

what brand was that mobo deal out of curiosity

asus. also can’t really test the ram sticks independently/in different slots because my damn cpu cooler covers the dimms entirely, have to take it off to even remove them. I guess I don’t technically have to repaste just to test ram briefly. probably. but I’m not about to try.

I’m stupid, it’s only the fans that cover the dimms, I can take those off. May as well clear the cmos and swap the slots in the hopes of not dealing with microcenter partial bundle returns in December

fwiw they are pretty chill when you’re swapping out bad bundle RAM in my experience. did it twice last fall

well I hope so, because these things are cooked. mobo dram light stays on immediately on boot in the other slots, can’t get anywhere. hopefully those slots aren’t also dead, who knows

new ram booted the expo profile with no problems the first time, and windows apparently uncorrupted itself without me needing to do anything about it. thank you computer jesus, please keep me safe going forward

Got a wifi 7 card to eliminate running an unsightly cable to my living room gaming PC.

Went to install the card today, and noticed there’s 0 chance in hell that I can fit another pcie card on that micro ATX board that’s completely enveloped in the Noctua NH-D15 and an FE 3090 combo.

At least amzn has easy returns :man_shrugging:

I’ve never used one. Where would I rise it to? Outside of the case?

i was imagining there was room somewhere else in the case… i never used one either, i just saw them used for setting up the gpu in a vertical orientation, and before that i didn’t know they existed.

I do strongly endorse getting PCIe (rather than USB) wifi cards in like the newest and strongest standard wherever possible – same with Bluetooth, spending like $40 instead of $20 makes you realize how flaky most wireless radios are
