Razer makes a phone cooler? actually that makes sense, but all the people trying to game with this shit just makes me sad.
Itās like 10x more powerful hardware than the Switch
this is even sadder that we have portable hardware capable of like PS4 graphics but all the games are F2P hellscapes, the controls all use touch interfaces, and the battery life sucks. Just the worst of all possibilities.
Yeah itās a bit sad that Apple has a stranglehold on the best TSMC chips and it mostly goes towards starting up Tiktok in 0.4 seconds instead of 0.8
I heard Apple touted the āgaming performanceā of the iphone 15 and iām really just flummoxed as to why phones need this. and if they are going to have this, maybe they should be selling docks that like position them as actual switch-like consoles?
Apple needs this because theyāre the largest gaming company in the world by revenue
also theyāve been pushing hard on controller compatibility along the entire xOS stack, every modern Apple device with bluetooth can use joycons or Dualsenses as controllers
and you can buy a lightningUSB-C to HDMI cable or dock and plug your phone into a TV and play games. theyāre quietly getting ready to make an Apple Silicon vertical hellscape (RE4 remake is going to be crossbuy/play/save across your Apple ID. also Lies of P came out on Mac. who is buying Lies of P on Mac)
itās me
I bought an iPad for the unholy union of using it at work as a scratchpad/portable VNC screen/having to sidestep printing out event scripts and playing money extraction games
Apple despises games but somehow found themselves in a position where a large fraction of their profits come from them anyway
Because they have little interest in games as such, their gaming strategy is largely by analogy with other businesses they do understand:
- like cameras (compete on specs and vertical integration)
- like advertising (drive app store traffic automatically to whatever game produces the most cash, which turns out to mean free-to-play)
- like streaming TV (provide $5/month package with family-friendly options that allow parents to nudge their kids away from the cesspool they created with 2)
I figured the writing was on the wall for the less brain poisoned of yāall when Tim Apple headlined iPad and iPhone events with Honkai Genshin Rail 3rd instead of anything on Apple Arcade
its just very depressing, is all
When I played Squeenixās visual novel Paranormasight a few months back, I bought it on Steam like everybody else, and only noticed later itās also on the two mobile app stores for about the same price (~$15). And after playing it, I recognized the game was designed with phones as its primary, ideal form factor.
But the Steam version has 1342 reviews and the iPhone version has only 19 reviews.
Every paid SaGa game they put out on the Google Play store might add up to ~100k sold (Minstrel Song ominously shows ā500+ downloadsā)
Meanwhile the SaGa gacha has 500k downloads and thatās presumably just a global version
Anyway, youāre never getting that genie back in the lamp
I mean I never have played ārealā games on my phone. Always feels like a hassle.
hey itās the portables youtube guy showing off the thing I talked about
Iām strangely weirded out that games keep their phone aspect ratio instead of shifting to 16:9, especially since I know that Genshin automatically readjusts its UI for 16:9 on iOS ![]()
Three years ago I bought an Apple Watch Series 6, tried it for a week and then decided it was basically useless or at least not useful enough to be worth the charging hassle, and put it in a drawer and mostly forgot about it. Despite its brand as a general-purpose wearable, it was still essentially a fitness sensor in 2020, and every other feature I was planning to use it for was half-baked.
Last week I started to get annoyed again by how often I needed to take my phone out of my pocket to rewind audiobooks, and thought Iād dust it off and see if itās good now. Observations after updating to watchOS 10:
- Audible and Spotify both have totally redesigned apps that both work much better
- I found a PurpleAir widget app (Paku)
- The stopwatch widget still drops down to 1 minute resolution to save battery when Iām not looking at the watch, but the autodetection of when Iām looking at it is a lot more reliable than before
Juryās out on whether I will actually keep wearing it, but the software does seem like itās improved a lot.
Iāve been vaguely considering it for a while and now that I finally have a huge phone after holding on to my OG X for 6 years Iām considering it anew, I still donāt know if I want one though
same. after a fitness monitor and noticed i only really use my phone for apple pay and spotify/podcasts when outside, so itās something iām looking into
Iām attracted to the low distractability of a smart watch. Iād really like to not be glued to my phone.
Apple watch is perfect for me. Fitness tracker is the killer feature, but using it for 2fa at work and dismissing calls with my phone in my pocket and previewing useless text messages is a godsend as well.
Edit: and any contactless payment scenarios.
