good to know. at the moment I’m running an hdmi cable from the graphics card to my tv, and an hdmi from the motherboard to my avr and sending sound there separately for movies (tried a displayport to hdmi cable from the card to the avr first and couldn’t get the avr to show up), so I could not bother with replacing this old avr with a updated one until they start bothering to support the full 48gps hdmi spec which none currently existing do. except when the tv is in ā€œgame modeā€ and can do 144hz suddenly the avr disappears from windows and I have to send the audio to the tv which is only connected to the avr by fiber optic cable cause my 2008 avr doesn’t have arc. and I think all this is confusing windows a little bit because it thinks there’s 4 displays connected. and the annoying thing about being connected straight to the tv is it just goes in some sleep mode like it’s always on and there’s some display off the left side of the screen my mouse can keep disappearing off into. thankfully in windows 11 it’s trivial to change where you want audio going at anytime and mostly trivial what displays you want any windows on at anytime at least or I’d go insane from all this.

Do we have a steam deck thread? Curious to hear people experiences as I might pick one up because I may be filming out of town for a long time starting in May and don’t want to haul my entire xbox across the province.

the quick and dirty answer is, the easier the game is to run, the more the Deck gains value

the more whatever game leans on pad controls, the better an experience it’ll be

you can definitely play mouse-heavy or -only games but I wouldn’t openly recommend it unless you’re really comfortable with getting your hands dirty with making or modifying an input profile and using the trackpads

I like the oled deck a lot, I think it just crossed over the barrier on all the important things to be a great piece of hardware. real shame about the shitty dpad, though.

now is the time… gonna get a nas
the asustor pro stuff looks good? but a lot of emphasis on plex transcoding and ā€˜apps’ which i guess are all just one click containers and i mean i already have a little debian box

kinda torn between something like that and a used synology (it’s like Ā£500 for a new four bay one lol)

How do I even search for this… a surface you put on your lap for holding a wireless mouse and keyboard on a couch? Are these called lap desks? Hope they’re cheap.

they were like two hundred bucks when I was looking them up

Jesus that’s like what I’d expect for an apple branded thing not something generic.

you can find them for super cheap. like they range from 30-infinity

and yeah lap desk works

somehow this isn’t a surprise. bots setting prices higher than prices set by other bots? test records? attempts to trick billionaires or institutional purchasers?

I used a beanbag-based one with a laptop and liked it. I’d worry about the stability/durability of some of the thin foam ones.

Is there no way to separate different versions of films in plex, it really just makes you select the three little dots option next to play, pick play version, then lists them by bitrate, doesn’t even tell you the file names?

add what you want as the version name in { } as part of the file name
