always appreciated how every time miyazaki is asked about dark souls 2 and how he didn’t direct it in an interview he’s like “actually it owns and i love it next question”

My favorite part of each fromsoft game is the first 10 hours where you have terrible cobbled together armor from 4 different sets (my hot take is that getting a full armor set from a single drop should never happen at any point) and DS2 has the best early game fucked up fits.

Scholar is great because it’s like, a joker’s trick update to Dark Souls 2, where they sanded away some of the rougher edges but then also set up enemy placements to deliberately prank people deeply familiar with the original game. More games should intentionally fuck with you because it’s funny.

can only speak for myself but i definitely am, i think my takes on the game from time of release were kneejerk and not totally fair. my opinion changed when 3 was more like “what i wanted” and i didnt really like it, and when i played older FS games and realized (like Daphny said) theyve always been weird, often in the same series. Like the 4 Kings Fields and 2 Shadow Towers play essentially the same but in practice theyre very different takes on the same set of ideas

ahhh im so overwhelmed i made it to another bonfire i THINK im actually getting a hang of combat, but thats only with the weapons i have right now, what could a big long pokey stick feel like? or a club? I DONT KNOW ABOUT THE CLUB YET BECAUSE IM NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO HOLD IT but boy howdy i dont mind farming weak dudes for a while until i stop missing half my opening swings
those bastard bombers will throw a bomb in your face even though their sword could DEFINITELY reach you. ooo also i like the clank clank clank of everyone hitting their shit against walls in hallways i think fighting two farmers and a bomber in a tiny dark hallway is the most fun ive had so far

I just walked into no man’s wharf with my torch, was like “wow this is pretty” and then immediately regretted ever being alive within 15 seconds of being there.

I am team biggest club possible in From games and I think Dark Souls 2 was the game that fully committed me to said lifestyle. I have stories to tell about that but they’re rather mid-to-late gamey, so they can wait.
