hard to be a caveman (dark souls 2 first timer thread)

Also fun to shoot the ledge hangers with an arrow. The game humiliates you plenty, but there are opportunities to humiliate it right back!

I enjoyed meticulously shooting the guys hanging from the pit in Huntsman’s Copse in the hands and watching them fall into the abyss

I made a mistake when I cooked over a boulder

Fauna was right behind me in the driving rain

I ran out of the taproot looking for my thicket

I discovered that the Estoc has strength scaling and an amazing moveset…it’s like a whole new world has opened to me. I’m stabbing everyone to death with a giant needle now.

Skeleton lords and Executioner’s chariot are great boss fights. The lords was just fun because it was like playing whack a mole with the giant club, running around pancaking every skeleton as it assembled itself. And the chariot boss fight was terrifying because the skeletons were ganging up on me but I somehow managed to make it, at one point only having an invisible sliver of HP after me the skeletons and a necromancer all got plowed over by the chariot, and proceeded to kill the horse by stabbing it in the ass over and over again with the big needle.

Here I am in well village checking my pulse afterwards. What a game!

the spear in ds2 is the best one in the series. fast piercing pokes for little guys, slow bludgeoning sweeps for big armored ones. like a bigger estoc

Dark Souls 2 was a total post-breakup game for me and I really got into it. At one point I tried for like two weeks to finish it without dying. Tried a hundreds of different builds again and again. In the end the best weapon was 2x caestus… No contest…

All things considered this is my favorite Souls. Sorry Miyazaki… I have fond memories of almost every part and it’s the last Souls with good bosses. And the Marjula well…

So I’ve spent the last few evenings fucking around in the endgame, collecting secret treasures ill never use, fighting optional bosses because they’re there, farming human effigies I don’t need while on a phonecall with a friend etc. I thought I owned the dlc but turns out I don’t, so that’s sad. I went into ng+ last night but I don’t reckon my energy will sustain itself for a whole second playthrough. I’m really glad I got to hang out in this game the way I have for one trillion hours in dark souls 1 and bloodborne though. It has been welcomed into the intimate circle of top tier fromsoft games.

Also yeah, my ng+7 character in dark souls 1’s primary weapon was the estoc. It is a refined flavour indeed. For this dark souls 2 run I mostly used the Heide spear imbued with lightning. It already does lightning damage so that’s double lightning, plus I would cast sunlight blade on it for boss battles. Triple lightning!
