yet another good cortana face, thank you 343. when I post this in response to someone asking if I’ve watched it you get “marketing”
Been enjoying Infinite’s campaign, including the more bubbly proto-Cortana.
Then I reached the part where you’re released into the open world, and my computer ground to about 3 FPS. I think that’s as far as I can get in this thing.
Multiplayer is decently fun with friends, but you end up seeing all 5 maps very quickly, and there’s not much to keep you coming back.
Doesn’t mean anything for however the rest of the season will pan, but the pilot doesn’t fuck around. Twenty minutes of brutal, bloody child murder followed by the UNSC conspiring to have the sole survivor executed for refusing to play ball with their propaganda efforts. Guess who they give the order to.
Interesting aesthetic trick: clothes and makeup are hypersaturated colours to match the CGI. Makes the practical effects look just as uncanny as the CG. It works pretty well.
Even the hair looks like it was rendered on Xbox.
Yeah that pilot episode looks so much like a cutscene from one of the anniversary versions of the games, but with real people and stuff. That opening shot I said to myself “this looks expensive” and it just kept on going.
The fights were pure Halo gameplay. It almost felt self indulgent but you really end up wanting to see just one more alien get shot in the face so it never quite crosses the line. And the effects of the plasma weapons against unarmored humans? Just brutal. I’m glad they didn’t pull punches with the violence.
As for the story itself we’ll see how it pans out. It’s a decent setup if a bit predictable feeling. I was hoping they’d hold off on bringing out the Covenant for a bit and show the Spartans doing what they were originally made to do which is putting down human rebellions and really play up that angle of the whole thing. Turns out they don’t want to go that far but it’s still a part of the story in a big way though so I can settle.
Second episode was pretty good. No battle scenes but lots of good world building and introducing a new character who appeared in one of the books. A great episode for lore junkies and die hard Halo fans. Got me looking forward to the next episode and feeling like playing some Halo.
I am the only person alive who likes the Mantis
“but jed, the mantis is just a bigger master cheif, it doesn’t add anything”
it adds big steppy, thats what.
I don’t understand why people would take umbrage with a bigger Chief.
fun fact the Mantis is a biped and not a vehicle in halo’s engine, and during development they literally used a bigger master chief as a placeholder
[seeing a featherless biped] behold, a mantis
is that Tom Hardy
I watched the first 18 minutes of this and was kind of flabbergasted, it felt like watching one of those “video game in real life” youtube shorts from the early 2000s, like those guys who would just do lightsaber VFX fights with their college buddies. just dropping human actors into a big video game arena killing each other in a directionless video game kind of way, but then interspersing closeup reaction shots and Cool Handgun Execution Poses and then oh no my Halo Shields are low so I have to Take Cover, look here’s the Halo Hud, just to give it a superficial sense of pacing. look we made a machinima video with real humans so you can watch this instead of a halo tournament VOD.
I like that the normal human guns are completely useless against the aliens but then the Spartans come and just headshot them because their Spartan Guns work much better when they’re being wielded by Spartans. idk if that’s how ballistic technology is supposed to work, like being an augmented supersoldier suddenly makes your bullets stronger. I like that they made it abundantly clear that the entire show would just be operating on video game logic which I guess makes perfect sense.
honestly shouldn’t have expected anything different, i mean i wasn’t expecting anything because the fact that this show existed was news to me until I saw the video link. so it just felt like surreal to actually click on it and watch it instantly
they can pull the trigger harder which makes the bullets go faster
cmon they can’t just show his cheeks, the armour is supposed to be there for us to inhabit and ultimately make them our cheeks
I thought the whole thing was that they were supposed to be melded with the armor warhammer style but maybe i’m misremembering
show me john halo’s dick!
paramount+ are cowards for not presenting a saints row 2 style character editor before screening the halo series
